Opportunity: Phone Free 6th Grade
Greetings Parents! After reading The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt several of us [parents] have felt called to start this conversation for our rising 6th graders. We feel that we have a unique opportunity to band together and create new norms in middle school and protect our kids' brains for a little longer. Please take a look at the research, consider reading the book and fill out the google form with your information if you’d like to join us/hear more. Thank you! STEAM Maker Mornings
Maker Mornings are off to a great start! It began March 5th allowing kids in K-5 to come down to the STEAM lab between 7:20 and 7:45 to explore different STEAM activities. Each homeroom has a pass for 2 students each day and the teacher will send those interested as they arrive. We are working on our reflection tent so that students are able to post videos about what they have done and how they will improve what they worked on. They have had access to Legos, Spheros, Coding, Gardening, and Microbits. The opportunities are a work in progress with the goal of each student being more independent to work on a long term project over several weeks that solves a problem. STEAM Maker sessions are available MONDAYS- THURSDAYS.
