Opportunity: Phone Free 6th Grade

Greetings Parents! After reading The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt several of us [parents] have felt called to start this conversation for our rising 6th graders. We feel that we have a unique opportunity to band together and create new norms in middle school and protect our kids' brains for a little longer. Please take a look at the research, consider reading the book and fill out the google form with your information if you’d like to join us/hear more. Thank you! Rising Rams: Hustle over to register and join the Ultimate summer camp experience.

Atlanta Hustle, Atlanta's professional Ultimate Frisbee Team, runs middle-grade camps throughout the summer. This summer, Howard Middle School and Atlanta Hustle have partnered up to offer a summer camp only for Rising 5 - 9 graders in the Midtown cluster. It's a great way for new players to learn the sport, or returning players to build their skills.

STEAM Maker Mornings

Maker Mornings are off to a great start!  It began March 5th allowing kids in K-5 to come down to the STEAM lab between 7:20 and 7:45 to explore different STEAM activities.  Each homeroom has a pass for 2 students each day and the teacher will send those interested as they arrive. We are working on our reflection tent so that students are able to post videos about what they have done and how they will improve what they worked on.  They have had access to Legos, Spheros, Coding, Gardening, and Microbits.  The opportunities are a work in progress with the goal of each student being more independent to work on a long term project over several weeks that solves a problem. STEAM Maker sessions are available MONDAYS- THURSDAYS.

MATH

We will also continue to review: Topic 16: Geometry (Triangles and Quadrilaterals). We will assess this this skill after Milestones.

Below, you will find topics on IXL that support 5th grade Geometry standards. Please be encouraged to complete them for extra practice and review. ☺️

READING / LANGUAGE ARTS

Next week, we will be finishing up ELA/Reading review centers that we have been working on over the past couple of weeks. We have Milestones for ELA M/T/W. We got this!!

**Note for Ms. Blair's Class: All assignments that are marked as "M" (Missing) in the gradebook are due by the start of Milestones, on April 29. I have provided multiple days in class for students to go over missing grades and work on those items. I have also printed new copies of work as students need it. However, this is not an indefinite curtesy. Please encourage your students to double check that all Missing Work is completed and turned in to me ASAP!
