My name is Ms. Landry and this year, I will be your child’s 6th grade social studies teacher. I am looking forward to working with your child to ensure a successful learning experience this year. This year your child will learn about American History. Beginning with the presidency of George Washington, this course offers a chronological study of major events, issues, movements, individuals, and groups of people in the United States from a national and a Louisiana perspective. In this course, students will examine the development of the early republic, the Louisiana Purchase, the War of 1812, westward expansion, social and political reform movements of the nineteenth century, the growth of nationalism and sectionalism, the Civil War, and the Reconstruction period.
Writing will be a big part of the learning process. Students will also analyze different types of documents to support their writing. Throughout this course, the students will read and analyze primary and secondary sources in order to gain a deeper understanding of American history.

Do you give homework?
Yes, students have a weekly homework assignment (called a Think-Back) that is due every Thursday. The Think-Back has 10 review questions from previously learned content. Students have a week to complete the assignment, and will use their notes to help them answer the questions. Students should write the exact answer from their notes. Occasionally, students may also have a homework assignment for something they did not finish in class.
Do you except late work?
Late work is not accepted. However, students can buy a late pass using pride points as part of our PBIS program. If students buy a late pass the homework assignment is due the very next day.
How much should my child be studying for your class?
Students should study their vocabulary, maps, and notes each night. This should take no more than twenty minutes.
Do you post the notes, map and vocabulary words?
Yes, all notes, maps and vocabulary are posted to World Studies Notes google classroom. I also post Quizzlet links which help students study for unit map and vocabulary quizzes.
