The Carpentry provides students with experiences working with wood and building things. Through hands-on projects, students gain the skills they will be able to use for their entire lives.
As part of the Career Connected Learning, formerly Career and Technical Education, department students also learn about the possibilities after high school. Whether you are going to college, plan on going into the trades, or just want to explore making things, the Wood Technology courses will provide you with the knowledge to succeed.
NCCER CORE CURRICULUM (WOODS I) – 80135 Grades: 9 – 12
Nine modules all provide coverage of Basic Safety, Introduction to Construction Math, Introduction to Hand Tools, Introduction to Power Tools, Construction Drawings, Basic Rigging, Basic Communication Skills, Basic Employability Skills, and Introduction to Materials Handling. Student options are available for work-ready certification.
CARPENTRY II (WOODS II) – 80136 Grades: 10 – 12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of the NCCER Core Curriculum
Key content includes safety obligations of all to ensure a safe workplace, OSHA regulation awareness, communication, and professional/employability skills.; Commercial Drawings, Roofing Applications, Thermal and Moisture Protection, Exterior Finishing, Cold-Formed Steel Framing, Drywall Installation, Drywall Finishing, Doors and Door Hardware, Suspended Ceilings, Window, Door, Floor, and Ceiling Trim, and Cabinet Installation. Student options are available for work-ready certification.
CARPENTRY III (WOODS III) - 80145 Grades: 11 - 12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of Carpentry II
Key content includes safety obligations of all to ensure a safe workplace, OSHA regulation awareness, communication, and professional/employability skills.; Key content includes Rigging Equipment, Rigging Practices, Properties of Concrete, Reinforcing Concrete, Handling and Placing Concrete, Trenching and Excavating, Foundations and Slab-On-Grade, Vertical Formwork, Horizontal Formwork, and Tilt-Up Wall Panels. Student options available for work-ready certification.
CARPENTRY IV (WOODS IV) - 80149 - Grades: 11 - 12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of Carpentry III
Key content includes safety obligations of all to ensure a safe workplace, OSHA regulation awareness, communication skills and professional skills/employability skills; Distance Measurement and Leveling, Angular Measurement, Advanced Roof Systems, Advanced Wall Systems, Advanced Stair Systems, Introduction to Light Equipment, Welding, Commercial Finish Work, Site Preparation, and Introductory Skills for the Crew Leader. Student options are available for work-ready certification.
Students who complete quality programs of study that complement academics have a 95% graduation rate in the United States.
