Outdoor Learning Team Vision: APS is a place in which school campuses extend beyond the four walls of the building, where the outdoors is valued and utilized as an educational resource, and where the community and the natural environment are integral components of children’s education.

School Gardens Vision - Staff throughout the district utilize school gardens as an educational tool for providing engaging learning experiences that facilitate whole-child outcomes.
School Gardens Mission - To facilitate staff utilization of school gardens as an educational tool by providing assistance for the development and continuous improvement of school garden initiatives and spaces, professional development, and instructional resources.
School Gardens initiatives are strategically designed and utilized to:
Enhance student learning and engagement through hands-on, experiential activities that incorporate the practical application of academic concepts in all content areas.
Support career readiness by introducing careers in agriculture, horticulture, culinary arts and environmental science amoung others.
Promote social-emotional growth by promoting teamwork, responsibility, patience and problem-solving while connecting with the land and nature.
Encourage healthy living while teaching about nutrition, food systems and sustainability through growing and harvesting produce.
Instill a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility through the teaching of composting, resource management and ecological awareness.
Strengthen community engagement by building partnerships with families and local businesses and organizations to create meaningful, real-world learning opportunities.
School gardens are dynamic learning spaces that support all content areas, providing hands-on opportunities and experiences that teach academic standards while helping students develop skills that will be useful throughout their lives.
