Course Objectives
1. Common scientific literacy
2. NGSS physical science disciplinary core ideas and science and engineering practices
3. Scientific problem solving and technology skills for 21st-century citizens
4. Development of positive work/study habits for postsecondary career and education
Course Materials
1. Chromebook
2. Google Classroom
3. Cellular Phone with calculator and stopwatch functions
4. Calculator for assessments
5. Pencils, colored pens, or colored pencils
Course Grades
Major Assignments (60%): Assessments and applications of NGSS standards that include Tests, Labs, and Quizzes
Minor Assignments (30%): Assignments designed to aid in the understanding of NGSS standards that include bell work, classroom reading assignments, practice activities, and notes packets
Final Exam (10%): End-of-semester assessment covering NGSS standards covered
VVHS Absent Late Work Policy: Students may obtain make-up work for any absence, excused or unexcused with the exception of long-term suspensions and expulsions. Upon return from an absence(s), students shall request make-up work and will have one day per day of absence to complete the missed work unless the teacher and/or school administrator add additional time. Grades shall not be reduced as a direct penalty for non-attendance, however, grading plans may include participation grades as part of an overall grading method.
Alternative Assignments and Make-up Work
All assignments and assessments will be accessible through Google Classroom. Assignments that cannot be directly replicated from the classroom activity will have an alternative form of the assignment available on Google Classroom that can be completed for credit.

1. Be Prepared with materials needed to conduct business for the day and a positive attitude
2. Be Responsible for your own actions and work. Follow directions.
3. Be Respectful of yourself, others and the property of others. Keep your body parts to yourself. No put downs.
4. Be Where You Are Supposed to Be come to class on time.
5. Use phones responsibly
Classroom Norm Violations
First and second violation- verbal warning. Phones used for non-academic purposes will be held until the end of the class period
3rd Violation- parent notification and meeting with the teacher to discuss behavior to prevent further incidents
4th Violation- School referral to the dean of discipline and parent notification
