iReady Math

Grades Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade will participate in the iReady Classroom Mathematics curriculum through small group, teacher-led instruction supplemented by individualized, self-paced iReady Math "MyPath" online lessons. This curriculum is focused on problem solving and discussion aligned with the Common Core State Standards.  In addition, I supplement iReady with extra skill-building focused on standard algorithms, fluency drill to memorize our basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts, and Math Addvantage strategies for development of number sense.  I also incorporate into all lessons the following research-based, peer-reviewed practices:

• Direct, explicit instruction involving modeling, guided practice, and independent practice to mastery

• Multi-sensory strategies for increased retention

• Hands-on manipulative use for engagement and deeper undersanding 

• A developmentally appropriate progression from concrete to representational to abstract practices

• Strategy-based skill building: trying multiple strategies for each concept

• Incoporation of metacognitive strategies and language development for increased rigor and rich discussion

• Use of mathematical practice standards to develop mathematical habits of mind
