Ms. Erika's 3rd Grade Class

About Your Teacher

Welcome to third grade! My name is Erika Terrazas, you can call me Ms. Erika. This is my sixth year teaching at Alvarado and I have been working with dual-language students for 11 years.

When I am not teaching you can find me spending time with my daughter, Gaby, looking for some adventure.

I am more than thrilled to be able to teach your student during the 2021-2022 school year!

Educational Philosophy

I believe that all students learn and grow through play within social-emotional and real-life experiences. I will provide opportunities for students to explore, research, work together, create, and imagine. I also believe in cultural diversity and incorporating it in our classroom using developmentally appropriate lessons and resources.

Curriculum

LANGUAGE ARTS

This year we will continue to use Benchmark Advanced. Some of the components we will work on are comprehension, fluency, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking. Science and Social Studies is embedded in each unit. We will also use Yabisi Santillana and Benchmark Adelante for our Spanish Language Arts.

MATH

We we use Math Origo Stepping Stones which was built to cover Common Core State Standards. Some of the concepts students we will study are Number Sense, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Geometry, and Measurement. Additional supplemental curricula will also be used to support Common Core Standards.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology will be used in the classroom. We will use Google Classroom, Google Slides and Google Docs, among other components. During the first few weeks, I will teach students how to use each of the applications to support student learning.

" I believe that it is essential to build a community of respect, understanding, empathy and communication with my students and their families. It is my goal to create a community where students feel safe to be themselves so that they can master new challenges and reach their full potential."
