Welcome to Ms. Montoya’s 5th grade class! I am pleased to be your child’s teacher this year. I believe all children are full of remarkable possibilities and I look forward to helping each student reach his or her potential. My two most important rules are:
#1 Always put forth your best effort
#2 Be kind to everyone.
I believe that each student is responsible for his or her own learning. Therefore, I expect my students to do their best regarding both schoolwork and behavior. With guidance and direction from both teacher and parents, every student can be successful.
Attendance is a very important component in distance learning. I will take attendance each day and also note the level of engagement/participation of each student. Student's attendance and engagement/participation is for each subject as stated in the Daily Schedule.
4-5+ contacts per day (a point is given for each subject)
2-3 contact per day (a point is given for each subject)
1 contact per day (a point is given for each subject)
Not present per day (a point is given for each subject)
Students can log in at an alternate time, but when work is not completed, this will be noted as an absence. At 5 absences, the district will send a letter making the parents aware of our Absentee Policy. At ten absences, we will schedule a Parent Conference with the family and have them sign a truancy contract.

I am asking for each student to have a learning nook where they can go each day for google meets and work on assignments. This nook should be a place free of noise and the area should have all home school supplies. This area will help your child be successful in their distance learning experience. If you have any questions, please contact me directly.
I would like to tell you a little about myself. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the University of New Mexico and I am TESOL endorsed. This is my eighteenth-year teaching. I taught Kindergarten for 2 years, 1st grade for one year, 3rd grade for five years, 4th grade for half year, 5th grade for ten years, and one year 8th grade math and science. I have taught here at Alvarado for 15 years as a third grade and fifth grade teacher. I grew up and still live in the North Valley. I graduated high school from Valley High. I love working with children from diverse backgrounds and watching them grow both academically and socially. I have an open-door policy and am willing to meet with anyone during an appropriate time.
