Understanding “giftedness”
Developing self-understanding and self-evaluation (IEP goals, Gifted Strand goals)
Developing social skills, better communication and interpersonal skills; becoming more comfortable with public speaking and formal presentations (both oral and written); and developing leadership skills
Applying effort towards thinking skills, improving organization, taking responsibility for all educational opportunities, social skills, and self-regulation
Building solid basis of mathematical ‘conceptual knowledge’: Hands-on projects, Hands –On –Equations, Interact programs (Math Quest, Athenian Secret, Polaris, Game Factory, Algebra Mystery Maze, The Great Equation Race), multi-step word problems
Developing critical thinking, reading and writing skills, and practicing shared inquiry discussions through Junior Great Books, Jacob’s Ladder, and TouchPebbles programs
Developing creative thinking skills within weekly activities and projects
Utilizing the writing process to develop writing skills and write meaningful pieces of writing
Special Enrichment Units to include:
· project-based learning related to units or involving interest areas
· opportunities for service-learning projects
· research and presentations/sharing with the community
