January-March:
All students were involved with our service project: Operation FFA--Food for All. We collected over 1,500 food items to support Feed NM Kids! Most students finished Level 2 of Hands on Equations. We are almost finished with Level 1 of Hands on Equations Fractions. Students will complete Day 4 and start Day 5 in the Great Equations Race. Day five will focus on measurement and conversions. We have been busy finishing up research and note-taking for Images of Greatness. We learned about primary and secondary sources and students used a primary source for part of their research. We have gone over the biography essay rubrics and have looked at examples for guidance. If students haven't already begun their essays, they will start them this week. Students recently participated in a small group Brain Games challenge and are currently working on independent challenges. We will also be working on reflecting about our learning and goals to share at conference time.
Images of Greatness: Students continue to work on our big project in class. If students are absent or behind, they may be doing some work at home. Please look forward to May 13th. This will be our Day of Dreamers. Students should start planning an outfit to wear and possible props at home. May 13th will be the day they need to come to school as their person. More information will be shared with students soon. Please reach out as soon as possible if you will need assistance with an outfit. We will share "favorite foods" of our people as an optional activity/celebration the following week of May 18th-22nd. (If students are unsure of a favorite food, they can plan for something related to the area or time the person lived.) More information will be shared as we get closer to the date.
