biography

I have been teaching at AHA since the day it opened in 2008.  I started as the Activities Director before heading back into the classroom where I have taught Rock & Roll History, Reel History and AVID.  I have a passion for students, music and film and enjoy passing on my knowledge and, more importantly, learning about your tastes in music, film as well as your viewpoints on life.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and have been living in New Mexico for over 25 years.  I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my classroom.  I worked in the music business many years and enjoy sharing my stories wherever and whenever possible.  I enjoy reading, cooking, exercising, writing poetry, taking long drives (driven from NM to FL several times) and I also host a weekly radio show featuring independent music.

I am married to an elementary school teacher and have two daughters, one of whom is an elementary music teacher as is her husband.  I am the son of immigrant parents who came to America from Sicily back in 1962.  I have a younger brother and sister and have often felt the pain of growing up the oldest sibling.

I have been teaching now for over 30 years.  Recently, the word "retirement" starting creeping into my vocabulary, but I am doing all that I can to hold off.  I truly don't think I am anywhere near being done with educating youth.  I enjoy being around kids and they are the reason that I get up in the morning and drive almost 45 minutes one way to do a job that has brought me so much satisfaction over these years.  No, I'm not ready to retire by any stretch of the imagination.

Having said that, I hope you will sign up to take my Rock & Roll History and/or Reel History classes in the coming school year.  I believe the experience and knowledge you will take away from these classes will stay with you for many years to come.

WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE THESE CLASSES?

Current and former students answer that question.

J.T. - Class of 2018 - "To put it short, Mr. Treppiedi’s Reel History class is one of the best elective classes you can take if you have any slight interest in movies. Every minute you spend in the class feels less like work and more like admiration of the art of cinema, topped off with the charismatic and insightful joy of one of the best teachers I’ve ever known. You will learn about the many of eras of film and the years that passed since, all while enjoying a great set of movies that are varied in genre, ensuring that there’s something for everyone. Do yourself a favor and check out Mr. Treppiedi’s class, you won’t regret it."

I.P. - Class of 2022 - "In the beginning of the school year, I did not know exactly what courses to take. Once I saw that Mr. Treppiedi was going to be teaching a class about film, I immediately knew that it was the perfect class to take. I had taken Mr. Treppiedi’s class, which was Rock & Roll History. I knew how he managed his class which was really simple and fun. He treats everyone with respect and he will expect the same from you. I enjoyed being in his class because you get to learn about film,  For instance: editing, sound design, the cinematography and much more, but overall we get to see films that relate to the real world and how it impacted the way films have changed throughout the time. It is a great experience to be in a class that talks about filming and to be able to learn about film process, and to actually evaluate a movie as a critic.  The films that we watch are all sorts of varieties: western movies, criminal movies, and my favorite black and white movies.  Mr. Treppiedi is one of the most chilled teachers.  He lets you make up the assignment if you take the work seriously. If you're into learning about film and the behind the scenes processes of a movie, this course would be perfect for you.  P.S. if you answer the question the teacher asks, you might get a chance to earn a burrito in his class!"

A.S. - Class of 2021 - "The reason I decided to enroll in Rock and Roll History this year was because I’m a fan of that genre. Another reason was because it seemed like a fun class which I was right. One last reason is I like to listen to and discover new songs and artists. The history behind some of these famous artists is also fascinating. So this is why I took Rock and Roll History for both semesters for my senior year I have enjoyed it and I’m eager to see what else I learn."

M.M. - Class of 2017 - "Taking Mr. Treppiedi’s R&R History class allowed me to gain a greater appreciation for all genres of music through the decades. I also discovered classic films & artists that have heavily influence the music industry today. I would highly recommend his class for anyone who wants to broaden their musical interests."

N.S. - Class of 2022 - "I took this class because I didn’t have a 6th period, so I met with my grade level principal to get a class.  When she mentioned Reel History I thought the class was interesting and so that’s why I chose it.  What I liked about the class was the atmosphere.  It felt like it was a class that you wanted to be there and to learn about pop culture and how movies had changed society and its effect on the world around us for years.  One of my favorite assignments was writing a review for the movies."
