Homework:

Homework will consist of Fundations, Reading, and Writing. If your child travels between two homes it may be best to keep any homework in their MONKEY Folder in their backpack so that the work can be completed no matter where they are.

Fundations (classroom Phonics program): Each week students will receive a Fundations Packet. Monday thru Thursday students will complete, with parent guidance, a simple phonics activity. On Friday the Packet will need to be returned to be graded.

Nightly Reading Challenges: Fun and engaging activities to help promote good reading habits and strengthen reading skills. The challenges will need to be completed throughout the month and turned in at the end of each month.

Writing: For most months throughout the school year students will receive a fun monthly writing activity with a project to complete at home with parent guidance. Students may be provided assistance completing the craft activity, but should complete the writing on their own to the best of their ability so that they are able to present and read the writing in class

MONKEY Folder:

Please help your child remember to bring their MONKEY folder and their school agenda to school everyday! The folder and the school agenda will contain important class and school information, and resources that will aid your child with academic skills. Please check and INITIAL/SIGN your child's folder on a nightly basis!

Monthly Writing Project:

Every month your child will come home with a family writing project. Please have your child follow these guidelines when completing each writing activity:

* The project/writing should be the work of the student, so that they can present their project in class. Students may need some help, but the work should be their own.

* Pictures should be colored.

* The writing should be completed in pencil. No writing in pen, crayon, or marker.

* The written portion should include the following:

* 3-4 complete sentences

* Each sentence should have a capital letter, finger space between words, lower case letters, and punctuation.
