August 2022
Dear Families,
Welcome to an exciting year in Fourth Grade! I am thrilled to be returning to North Star this year. I look forward to meeting every one of you as we work together to make your child’s education a successful experience. I enter the classroom this year with enthusiasm for learning and a passion for children. I feel that I have as much to learn from the children as they do from me and I look forward to a successful partnership between my students, their families, and myself throughout the year.
I hold high expectations for my students. I am a firm believer that every child has the ability to become a successful learner within the classroom. I expect hard work and I, in turn, will make every effort to teach to the best of my ability. There are many different ways that children learn and I will be modifying my techniques on a daily basis in order to reach every child. I do hope that if your child is having difficulties meeting the requirements of the class, that you will feel comfortable enough to bring it to my attention so that we can work together to find a remedy.
Communication
The easiest way to communicate is through my email, kyle.reagin@aps.edu. If you have a question or concern about a school issue, please email me or schedule an appointment to talk with me. If you stop by, I do ask that it be a time in which the children are not in the room. The students are my first priority and I cannot afford to take time away from their learning.
I will also utilize Class Dojo this year in the classroom as a way to communicate with families and showcase things we are doing in the classroom through the “Class Story” section. As a class, we will work toward classroom goals and rewards. Parents will be given information on how to sign into Class Dojo to view classroom news and messages from me.
Students will be bringing home an Agenda/Planner notebook each night (when they arrive) as well as a Home Folder. Please look inside for information about what was covered that day or coming up in the future. Any signed documents or notes needing my attention should be placed in your child's Home folder. I will send home a weekly newsletter as well, through email, keeping you up-to-date on what we are learning about in the classroom.
Homework
I require that my students read, or are read to, EVERY night. This is extremely important in your child’s literacy development. In lieu of a reading log, your child will complete a hands-on book report periodically to showcase what they have been reading at home. They will be assigned a project of their choosing every two months. Directions and expectations of each project will be sent home along with the due date. Additionally, I will send home a weekly homework packet with daily math. However, nightly reading is a DAILY assignment and the most crucial. READ! READ! READ!
Volunteer Opportunities
Every parent has something to contribute to education! I strongly believe that parental involvement is a key component in a child succeeding in school. I will detail some opportunities available at Curriculum Night. We will have field trips this year as well and I will send out volunteer information at that time. **Please get your Background Check so you are ready to volunteer when the time comes.
About Me
As for some information about myself, this is my 22nd year teaching. I received my Master’s Degree from UNM and I passed my Professional Development Dossier summer of 2008, achieving my Tier 3 License. I also have my ESL Certification (Teaching English as a Second Language). This certification enables me to serve students who have a home language other than English.
I have two children. My son, Briggs, is a second grader at North Star this year and my daughter, Kendyl, is a fifth grader at Double Eagle Elementary. This summer I enjoyed traveling to Maui, HI. Seeing the gorgeous scenery on the Road to Hana was a highlight! We are avid hikers and have a great time exploring nature. I hope everyone had a fantastic summer break and I look forward to a fabulous school year with you all!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kyle Reagin
