Wants vs. Needs: You are going camping and you can only take 10 items. You need to write a list of the items you would like to take with you. Once you finish your list, take another piece of paper (or a whiteboard and dry erase marker) and fold it in half “hot dog” style. Open the paper, hold it upright where you have two columns (not rows) one on the right and one on the left. Draw a line down the center of the page along the fold. At the top of the page, write the word “WANTS” on one side and “NEEDS” on the other side. Get your list of 10 items you would take with you and for each item, decide whether it is something you really NEED to take, or is it something you really WANT to take with you. Look at each item and write it in the correct column.
[Example: Flashlight=Need, Tootsie Roll Suckers=Want.]
On the backside of the paper, illustrate (draw a picture) all the items on your list after you complete the writing

Wax Paper Crayon Art: Materials-multi-colored shaved crayons (scraping with a popsicle stick, etc.), 2 sheets of waxed paper (8 ½” X 11”), 2 dishtowels, scissors, hole punch, string or yarn, iron (Ask adults for help with the iron). First, shave the crayons (for “earthly” colors use greens, yellows, and browns) and place the shavings in the middle of a piece of waxed paper and cover it with another piece of waxed paper (you choose the size, just make sure the edges do not have any crayons on them). Next, place the waxed paper with the crayon shavings on top of a dishtowel and place another dishtowel on top of the waxed paper. Then, have an adult iron the top of the dishtowel. Wait a few minutes and turn the towel over and iron the bottom (which is now the inverted top) and let cool. After that, use a marker to draw or trace a shape, or shapes (leaf, star, heart, circle, etc.) on top of the waxed paper and cut out. Finally, poke a hole at the top of your shape, tie a piece of string through the hole, and hang.
