This year your student is enrolled in one of my classes. I teach 8th grade ELA, and Journalism.
I hope that you find my website to be a very informational tool. This website will provide links to resources and provide you with basic information pertinent to the class. It will not house your student's grades or upcoming assignments, but you can easily have access to all of your student's grades and assignments via ParentVue. Please visit www.aps.edu for more information.
Please feel free to contact me at amanda.allred@aps.edu with any questions or concerns. I'm very excited to work with you and your family this year.
Mrs. Mandy Allred
Welcome,
My name is Mrs. Mandy Allred. I am very excited to continue my journey in education with the James Monroe faculty/and families this year as a Journalism, and English Language Arts (ELA) teacher. I love working with middle school students and believe that this year will be an excellent one.
I have been at James Monroe since 2006, and I love it here. Last year went exceptionally well due in large part to the amazing students and the supportive positive community. I am thrilled to meet a new group of interesting, unique students and to see what talents they will bring to their classes.
I am a Level Three licensed teacher which equates to being a master teacher! I taught ELA for several years before I switched to teaching Drama, and now I am switching back. ;) I am a life-long member of the yearbook team. I began taking yearbook when I was in 8th grade, and I have worked with yearbook ever since. I have spent almost 20 years of my life either creating or advising yearbook students. So, needless to say Journalism is a passion of mine.
I have been honored by the students of NJHS with a nomination for JMMS Teacher of the Year six times. I have been the yearbook advisor since I came to JMMS, and I am an active member of the faculty. I am the Department Chair for the ELA Department at JMMS, a position I have held since 2023 prior to that I was the Related Arts Department Chair since 2014.
Prior to my time at JMMS, I worked for the Albuquerque Public Schools, for two years, as an educational assistant in the ISP program at Highland High School, and I loved every minute of it. I also completed one year of student teaching split between 10th grade Language Arts at Highland High School and 8th grade Language Arts at Wilson Middle School. I hold my B.A. in Communications and Journalism and my M.A. in Secondary Education with a concentration in Language Arts. Both of my degrees were obtained at the University of New Mexico. I am currently a candidate for the OPAL portfolio project in order to secure my license in Special Education.
Once again, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my website and ask you to feel free to contact me via e-mail (amanda.allred@aps.edu) or at the school (extension 40844) any time . I am here to support students and families in any way I can.

This year we will embrace diversity and learn how powerful being a master of language and creativity is.
