Mr. Hoover's S.T.E.A.M. Class

I will be teaching the Kit Carson K-5 S.T.E.A.M. Class!

Please talk to students about technology, remind them that food, drinks and gum can be harmful to computers if not monitored closely!

Also remind them that chewing on, swinging or otherwise misusing equipment can be harmful!

This year I am teaching a class with students called S.T.E.A.M.

S.T.E.A.M. is an acronym, meaning that every letter stands for another word!

In S.T.E.A.M. the letters stand for:

  • Science

  • Technology

  • Engineering

  • Art

  • Mathematics

While we are in distance learning mode I will be trying to find ways that students can work on these 5 subjects from home and with VERY little resources!

I am hoping that I can find ways to teach these concepts using everyday objects that you might have at home already. Things like lemon or lime juice, or Vinegar. We may try to engineer some stuff from toilet paper or paper towel rolls or just from paper!

One activity I have in mind is for students to engineer a paper airplane, decorate it, and then measure to see how far it flies! An activity like this could use three or four of the concepts of S.T.E.A.M.!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

I will be doing most lessons in Google Classroom!

You can find them by going to the my.aps.edu Website then click on the green box called Google Classroom

Students can find lessons there in case they missed a lesson.

If you don't have a class in your classroom link, it's because you haven't been in my room to join a class!
