Gifted Curriculum

Mr. C’s Gifted Classroom Curricula

3rd & 4th Grade -

ELA -

Journey Around the World –

Students will embark on an Around the World learning journey stopping in different countries/regions of the world.  Through literature works authored by writers who hail from different places on the globe, students will discover interesting real and fictional people and places on our planet.  Students will engage in meaningful reading, writing, speaking, and listening learning activities that can be related to real life experiences.

Math -

Beast Academy -

Students will be exposed to a published math curriculum designed to truly challenge learners to think critically and outside the box.  Beast Academy uses a comic-based content delivery strategy to reach its math audience.  While the curriculum is engaging and fun, it is rigorous.  Third- or fourth-grade students will be empowered to use higher-order reasoning skills to problem solve.  They will learn how to persevere through sometimes cognitively trying learning episodes and embrace a healthy struggle during the math learning process.

Critical Thinking/Creativity -

Students attending Critical Thinking and Creativity block will be exposed to learning activities that empower them to access and use higher-level cognitive skills (Critical Thinking) including problem solving, evaluating, analyzing, synthesizing, applying concepts, and connecting ideas, and skills (Creativity) like fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration.

Teaching Methods in play -

Students will be challenged to use higher-level thought processes within Bloom’s TaxonomyAnalyzing, Evaluating, and Creating - during individual and group learning sessions.

Kagan teaching strategies, as coined and endorsed by Dr. Spencer Kagan, will be used in the classroom, empowering students to collaborate, communicate, and work together cooperatively in an environment where dynamic learning and physical movement are commonplace.  A primary goal of this teaching approach is to promote high academic achievement in students.
