Signs and Symptoms of
Student Alcohol or Drug Misuse
Drop in attendance or performance at school or work—loss of interest in activities, hobbies, sports or exercise
Unexplained need for money—missing money or items of value
Silent, withdrawn, engaging in secretive behaviors
A sudden change in relationships, friends, favorite hangout spots
Frequently getting into trouble (arguments, fights, accidents, illegal activities)
Sudden mood changes; irritability, angry outbursts or laughing at nothing
Periods of unusual hyperactivity or agitation
Lack of motivation, inability to focus or complete tasks. Changes in appetite or sleep patterns
Appears fearful, anxious or paranoid with no apparent reason
Eyes that are bloodshot or change in pupil size

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free confidential short-term program that helps employees work through various life challenges that may adversely affect job performance.
