We call our gifted education classes SEEK = Students Exploring and Expanding Knowledge.

September/October SEEK News

We are off to a great start of the 26-27 School Year! Thank you to the generous supply donations for our classroom!

Reminders that students should have a water bottle in SEEK Class. They may bring their regular bottle when they come or leave an extra here. If students miss a SEEK day, I may give them an orange SEEK folder with make-up work. Directions for assignments will be within the folder. I encourage students to be as independent as possible with make-up work, but please reach out with any questions.

Our SEEK schedules will remain pretty consistent, but there will be times when students attend at a different time due to special events or days off of school. We will keep them posted with changes.

 In addition to regular weekly SEEK times, 4th Grade Students will attend SEEK one other time each month for “SEEK Hour”. During this time, they will get to interact with their other gifted peers. Usually we will do critical thinking activities, like Brain Games or other challenges during this time. 

4th Grade Current Learning and Learning Coming Soon:

• Endangered Animal/I Am Unit: Research and note-taking, Animal Poems, I Am Poems, Google Slides presentations, and clay animals

• Junior Great Books: The Enchanted Sticks

• Math Quest: Guess and Check and Draw a Picture word problem strategies–Next strategy will be Make a Table or Chart

• Review Level 1 of Hands on Equations–lessons 1 to 7

• Creative Problem Solver Discussions and Posters

• Brain Game Challenges (group challenge in September and individual challenge in October)

• Individual Goal Setting using gifted strands and APS Skills, mindsets, and habits

5th Grade Current Learning and Learning Coming Soon:

• Junior Great Books: The Two Brothers and Kaddo’s Wall

• Rube Goldberg Unit: Simple Machines, Kinetic and Potential Energy, Conservation of Energy, Rube Goldberg, Laws of Motion, Engineering Design, Planning and Creative a Rube Goldberg Machine, Project Analysis and Presentation (or Independent Study project)

• Figure Me Out: Writing and solving equations using Order of Operations

• Great Equation Race: 1st unit: geometry concepts, 2nd unit: order of operations, verbal operations, and operations involving positive and negative integers

• Hands on Equations Level 2: Review of lessons 9-10 and new lessons 11-14 involving positive and negative variables within algebraic equations

• Brain Game Challenges (group challenge in September and individual challenge in October)

• Individual Goal Setting using gifted strands; Creative Problem Solver Skills; and APS Skills, Mindsets, and Habits

• Posters for Skills, Mindsets, and Habits (Perseverance, Self-Efficacy, Social Awareness, and Self-Regulation)

Schedules

Students schedules will vary based on their individual gifted services plans.

4th grade students from Mrs. Martinez and Mrs. Shoemaker's classes will attend SEEK class on Wednesdays after morning recess until the end of the school day and also on Thursday mornings before recess. 4th graders from Mrs. Gonzalez and Ms. Quintana's classes will attend on Thursdays after morning recess until the end of the school day and also on Friday mornings before recess.

They will also meet with me for another hour each month. This will be called "SEEK Hour". Times will be determined each month.

5th grade students will attend SEEK classes on Tuesdays after Specials classes until 1:45 and then again on Wednesday mornings.

All student join their peers during Specials, Lunch, and Recesses.
