My investigation is focused on unusual animals and how their vibrant colors stand out from their natural surroundings. My theme intrigued me because it was different from paintings I have done in the past. I thought it would be challenging but at the same time rewarding to step outside my comfort zone and paint realism. I have a love for all animals and I have a new appreciation for those that I have painted, doing research on them made me realize how incredible the world is. I used acrylic paint for all of my work, it's what I'm most comfortable with when it comes to medium. I also stuck to acrylic because I thought it would bring out the bright colors the best.
When choosing an animal to paint I would try and search for one that caught my eye immediately. Then I would do some research on the animal just out of curiosity. Throughout my process, I tried to improve some skills like line work and my brush technique. I was advised to add shadows to my paintings so I tried to incorporate that as well. I would start by sketching the animals I wanted to paint then make changes depending on the colors I was using. I think the relevancy these paintings have to the viewer is getting to appreciate the vibrant colors and maybe introducing animals that they have never even heard of.

Materials: Acrylic paint
Processes: This is a small-scale representation of a “fake” poison dart frog, I chose him because I wondered what it’s like to be him. I had a hard time with the small detail.

Height: 8''
Width: 12''
Materials: Acrylic Paint
Processes: Part of my process before picking what I am going to paint is to choose something that looks unusual to me or perhaps something I have never seen before. When I saw this crab I thought it was fake, and it is indeed very real.

Height: 8''
Width: 12''
Materials: Acrylic Paint
Processes: A Blue Footed Booby is a goofy bird, and he reminds me a lot of myself. I would be so confident to say, if I was a bird I would be a Blue Footed Booby. His bright feet are different form the rest of the greyish background.

Processes: For these next few paintings my goal was to abstract the original paintings by painting a zoomed-in version of that picture. This painting, it's a zoomed-in view of the blue fish.
Image 8

Processes: This one is a zoomed-in version of the Halloween crab, I liked how it focused on the colors. If I didn't know it was a crab I honestly have no clue what it was.

Processes: This is a zoomed-in picture of the Tuscan, I had a lot of fun with this one and I thought it would look funny upside down. Also, it gives it more of an abstract look.

Width: 12''
Materials: Acrylic Paint
Processes: Following the same idea as the other paintings this is an enlarged view of my painting, purple frog. I tried to find an angle that had a balance of the bright colors and the green.
