Policies and Procedures are subject to change depending on the class and as the year progresses.
Beginning class: Before class starts, students must wait outside the classroom for the teacher to let them in. This is to allow time to clean up any chemicals or other lab materials. Students are expected to sit at their assigned seats and take out their notebooks, pencils/pens, and other materials relevant to that day. Sometimes there will be a warm-up on the board and students are expected to start the exercise while teacher is taking attendance.
Ending class: Often times there will be an exit ticket or ending excercise at the end of the class that students are expected to complete before leaving. Students are also expected to clean up their area if we are finishing up a lab or project (return supplies, clean glassware, etc.)
Being tardy to class: Students who arrive after the class start time will be marked "tardy." Accumulated tardies will result in disciplinary action determined by the school.
Making up work when absent: If absent, please look on Google Classroom for missing assignments. If Google Classroom is not updated, please contact the teacher via email.
Handing in work: Unless otherwise specified, students are expected to turn in assignments in class. In most cases, students will be called to show their assignments to the teacher and graded during class. Feedback will be provided so students have a chance to correct the work and improve their grade.
Using cell phones: Phones are only allowed during designated work times. They are not allowed during lecture times and during exams. This also applies to wireless earbuds and other electronic devices. If device usage happens outside of designated work times, students will be warned first. If the usage persists, teacher will take the device and return it at the end of class.
Keeping the work area clean: Please return all materials to their proper place once finished. This can include school supplies such as color pencils or lab chemicals and equipment.
Formatting written work: Every paper given to students should include their name, date, and class period, even if the work is not expected to be turned in. This is so if lost papers are found, the teacher can identify who it belongs to.
Using the classroom textbooks: This classroom is equipped with a class set of textbooks. Students are allowed to use these textbooks, but they cannot leave the classroom. If a student wishes to have a textbook for home use, they can check one out at the library. In most cases, an online version will be available on Google Classroom.
Finishing work early: If students are finished with all their work early for my class, they are allowed to work on other assignments from other classes.
Pledging allegiance to the flag: Flag is located in the front of the classroom, above the projector.
Listening to intercom announcements: Students are expected to listen to the morning announcements quietly, however they are also allowed to work while they listen.
Lining up: Students are not allowed to line up in front of the door to wait for the end of class because of safety and evacuation concerns.
Going to the nurse: Students are allowed to go to the nurse only if it is an emergency or scheduled visit such as medication.
Using a computer: All students are expected to have a school issued Chromebook and internet access at home, however students are not expected to bring their Chromebook to class unless instructed to.
Asking questions: If a student has a question or needs help with the content, they are encouraged to raise their hand from their seat.
Handling emergencies: Please let the teacher know immediately of any emergency as soon as possible. This includes chemical spills, equipment breakage, fire, cuts, burns, etc.
Managing restroom breaks: If a student wishes to use the restroom, they must fill out a pass using paper located at the front of the classroom. The pass must include name, date/time, and where they are going. Only two students are allowed to leave at a time. Students are expected to return as soon as possible to avoid missing more class time and not keep other students waiting to use the restroom.
Having materials needed for class: This class requires basic classroom supplies including, but not limited to, a pencil, lined paper, pens, notebook. It is also recommended to bring a calculator and a set of color pencils or markers.
Making up missing or late work: Any work not turned in when expected will receive a zero immediately. Work can be turned in later for credit, how much is at teacher discretion.
Sharpening pencils: An electric pencil sharpener is located at the front of the classroom.
Assigning homework: Any work not finished in class is expected to be finished at home before the next class unless otherwise specified.
Taking attendance: Attendance will be taken at the beginning of class. Students who are not in my classroom at the start of the class time will be marked absent first, then marked late whenever they show up.
Food and Drink: Because this is a science classroom where experiments involving chemicals are conducted, food and drink is prohibited in the class. The only exception is water with a cap. This is to prevent chemical contamination with any food or drink.
Taking tests: Standard rules apply when taking tests and other exams. Students are not allowed to use their phones or other electronic devices, look at other students' tests, share resources, or talk during the test time. If students are seen doing any of the aforementioned, a 0% grade will be given for that exam after a warning.
Supply Rooms: Students are not allowed in the supply rooms at any time unless given explicit permission by the teacher.
Conducting fire and other drills: In the case of a fire drill, students are expected to evacuate through the main classroom door and out the back of E-Hall and proceed to the fence along the baseball field. Other evacuation drills might require us to move further towards the soccer field or leave through the back of the classroom, but these decisions are made on a case by case basis.
