Hubert Humphrey Parent Information
- Attendance: Parents, to insure the safety of your child, call the attendance line whenever your child is absent or has an appointment! The attendance number is 821-4981 option 2. This number is to report absences ONLY if your child will be absent or late coming to school for any reason. If you have called in and left a message on the attendance line, you will NOT receive a call from a Humphrey volunteer but you WILL receive an automated call from Albuquerque Public Schools .This is a way of informing parents that the student has been marked in the computer as absent. Each day your child is absent, please call the absentee number before 9:30 a.m. If we do not hear from you, the absence is unexcused. A volunteer parent will check the attendance recorder every morning. If your child has not been reported absent and is not in school, the volunteer will immediately notify you at home or at work.
- If you need to leave a message for school personnel, please call the main school number during regular school office hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
- Volunteering: You must have a volunteer clearance to be able to attend any classroom parties, accompany the class on field trips, etc. Background clearance is done online at www.aps.edu/volunteer-with-aps. Your clearance will be emailed to you. Please get the office a copy of your clearance. You may forward it to amiee.zellner@aps.edu.
- Car Drop Off and Pick Up at School: You can drop off your child in the back of school ONLY by going North on Concordia. There are no left turns allowed before or after school. Please be courteous and respectful of the Duty Teachers- they are there to assist and make everything smoother and safer.
- Field Trips: Students going on field trips to supplement class activities or activity trips must have the approval of the principal in advance and the written consent of the parent/guardian prior to the trip. If you as a parent will be accompanying the students, you must have a Volunteer Background Clearance. Please see VOLUNTEER Information above.
- Tardy Policy: Students are not allowed to be on campus before 8:40 am. Playground supervision does not begin until 8:40 am. If your child eats breakfast in the cafeteria, they may be dropped off at 8:30 to eat breakfast. If you need childcare before 8:40, you must register with a childcare program. The first bell rings at 8:50 am. The tardy bell rings at 8:55 am. If your student arrives later than 8:55 am they MUST GO TO THE OFFICE for a blue tardy pass before going to the classroom. Please make sure your student is on time. When they are late, it causes a disruption in the classroom and they miss important morning announcements. Excessive tardiness will be reported to the APS Court Liaison Office.
- Messages for Students: The office will gladly get an emergency message to your students. We understand sometimes there are traffic delays, flat tires, etc. However, some parents call almost daily for us to remind their students as to where to go. If you call more than once in one week, your second message will not be delivered Unless it is an emergency! Whenever you call, the office calls into the classroom. This not only disrupts the entire classroom, everyone in the class will hear the message. Please make arrangements with your child (ren) before school starts.
- Student Pickup: If a student must be removed from school early for a doctor's appointment or similar emergency, please come to the office and sign the child out. Teachers will not be allowed to release children directly from their classes. We ask this in order to be able to identify those persons picking up children and to insure the safety of your children. Your cooperation and understanding is appreciated.
- The school day ends at 3:40. Students should be picked up on time. The office closes at 4:00 and office staff is not able to supervise your child beyond this time. APS police will be called if your child is not picked up by 4:00. If the staff feels that a chronic problem exists with regards to picking your child (ren) up on time, the student may be considered abandoned and the police will again be notified. Such children may be subject to transportation to a state shelter for abandoned children.
