Hi! I am Ms. Katrina Hart and here's a little about me:
I am a native New Mexican, born and raised in Albuquerque. I attended the University of New Mexico, joined the sorority Pi Beta Phi (of which I am an active alumna), and graduated in 2006 with my BA in English and a minor in Communication/Journalism. I continued my education at UNM and received my Master's in Secondary Education in Fall 2010.
I started my teaching career at Albuquerque High School in 2007. I taught English 9 and 9H along with advising the yearbook. While at AHS, my students and I received accolades for our yearbook and a Gold Medal critique from the CSPA. I also taught English 11 and Mythology/Composition for English 12, as well, during my tenure at AHS.
In 2014, I transferred to Cibola High School to teach English 11 and continue my yearbook advising, taking over a struggling program. Along with advising the yearbook for 2 years and teaching English 11, I also taught Bible as Literature (English 12), AP Literature and Composition, and English 10H.
While at Cibola, I became a member of the APS Apple Vanguard team, with whom I created an iTunes U course using Garageband that made it to the spotlight page internationally for two or so weeks and is still the district's most downloaded course.
In 2018, I transferred to Sandia High School. I am very excited to be a Matador and to continue my adventure with English 12, Film Criticism, and everything in between. Sandia has been my dream school, and I walk in every day on cloud 9 because I have finally become a Matador!
I have been a tech resource teacher on campus for my colleagues. I am also an EdCamp Facilitator for EdCamp New Mexico. I enjoy working with my peers to incorporate technology meaningfully into the curriculum for students and to assist those who want to know how to be 'hallway renegades' in their schools. I also share my classroom with student teachers from UNM/CNM along with mentoring new teachers in APS.
My philosophy for education is very simple: Every student deserves an opportunity for an education. As long as students are present, willing to learn, and participate in their education, I have something to offer and they will benefit from everything happening in my classroom. I want all students to be active and productive members of whatever society they belong to in their lives in the future.
In my spare time, I enjoy golfing, reading almost anything, working in my garden, and being among friends and family. I love dogs and miss having four legs and a wet nose in my home. I am a huge fan of Liverpool FC and I have been a die-hard Cubs fan since birth, much to my parents' chagrin. : ) I enjoy a great cup of hot tea (loose-leaf brewer here!) or a cup of Costa Rican coffee. I also LOVE being in the kitchen - cooking and baking many different things. A few other of my favorite things are: flamingos, elephants, The Golden Girls, The Muppets, and Charlie Brown/Snoopy/The Peanuts.
I enjoy traveling. I have enjoyed taking students on trips around the world so they can experience things they have only seen in textbooks and to really appreciate just how large and wonderful this world is and all of the history that it has to offer. In particular, I have loved to travel to Greece with students so they may see the Acropolis and Olympia, as well as to Costa Rica and Italy. While I am not going to be traveling with students for the foreseeable future, I am not ruling out another trip or two.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I am open to communication!
