I believe it is very important to understand that every student in my class has a different learning style that must be accommodated. I must first assess every student’s ability in the classroom and use the information gathered as a starting point for each individual student. For every child to have a chance for success the classroom environment must be one of tolerance and respect for all in our classroom. I will strive to make every student feel as safe and as comfortable as possible in our classroom. It is essential for each student to understand their boundaries so they can feel secure and cozy in the classroom during any learning situation we will cross during the course of the year. I believe in the inquiry/questioning method being used in many classrooms across the nation and our state today. I must use questions to spark your child’s interest and curiosity, and along the way help develop an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. It is essential while using this method never to just give a student the answer they’re looking for, but to prompt them in the right direction through a series of questions. Also, I will thrive to create opportunities in our classroom for students to take academic risks, in order to understand it’s OKAY to be wrong. In fact, it’s an important part of learning. It is important that the fourth graders become more and more independent as the year goes on as to prepare them for their journey into fifth grade and beyond.
