2023-2024 Service Project
Our Educators Rising Chapter
Learned about the McKinney Vento program in APS and how it services school-aged children and their families who are experiencing homelessness. The program presenters helped us design a project that would be useful--namely, that those children needed materials to enjoy their classroom Valentines Day parties.
Our Ed Risers
a. developed flyers and posters about our drive.
b. made social media posts and daily announcements of class competition to collect Valentines.
c. created a Google form to collect information on collections from teachers.
d. picked up Valentines and tabulated winners
e. delivered Valentines to McKinney Vento warehouse for distribution to students.
2022-2023 Service Project
Our Educators Rising Chapter
Met with our Community School Coordinator to identify a need (in this case, marketing the new clothing bank to students at DNHS)
Challenges to our project: the new clothing bank was positioned in a location that did not have an exterior door. Students had to access it through the girls locker room.
Our Ed Risers
a. developed signage to make it easy to find.
b. made social media posts and daily announcements
c. opened the clothing bank at lunch one day/week for students to access.
The 2022-2023 Service Project was awarded National Qualifier at the NM Educators Rising State Conference.
2020-2021 Service Project
Our Educators Rising Chapter
Identified challenges confronted by children during COVID shut down--namely, lack of connection/socialization and the resultant emotional effects.
Developed a way for parents to sign up their children to receive pen pal letters from our teacher cadets in the mail.
Became pen pals with children and sent letters at least once/two weeks for the fall semester to inspire them to keep going and know they had a friend.
Surveyed parents for impressions when the project was completed.
The 2022-2023 Service Project was awarded 1st Place at the NM Educators Rising State Conference.
2019-2020 Service Project
Our Educators Rising Chapter
Identified a need in our community: poverty.
Identified a way to help students suffering poverty: collecting toiletries for Locker 505 (a local clothing bank for APS students)
Developed a classroom competition: the Rub A Dub Ducky Toiletry Drive. The homeroom with the most toiletries collected earned rubber duckies and a duck trophy.
Collected the toiletries and tabulated results.
Created the award and awarded the winning homeroom.
Delivered the toiletries to Locker 505
The 2022-2023 Service Project was awarded 2nd Place at the NM Educators Rising State Conference.
