Note Taking is incredibly important in education. A strong majority of workplace communication is verbal. We do not retain everything we hear, we need to commit it to memory in some way. By engaging our hands in conjunction with our ears, we make something physical, visual and auditory. There are now multiple ways to engage. By waiting till the evening and writing a summary of class, you become much more engaged and send the message to your brain that says "Hey! This is really important! Remember this!" As little as five minutes of note summarization can do amazing things for learning. Fifteen is optimal. That's not much time in all reality. Going back and enhancing, adding color or sketches, really helps as well.
BINDER itself should be no more than 1 or 25mm thick. It should have rings to allow organization and placement of papers and paper jackets / dividers. It needs to have some way of displaying your name class and subject on the front.
DIVIDERS are necessary for your binder. You need a section for Shop Logs, Notes, Returned Work, Certificates, and a Miscellaneous section at the minimum.
NOTES - refer to the section on this page.
PENCIL POUCH is not required but a great idea to keep additional small tools and things associated with working on cars such as small rulers, protractors, etc.
PRESENTATION- Refer to the section on this page.
SPELLING and GRAMMAR
As much as correct procedure when assembling an engine is incredibly important, assembling written communication is important to. Language Mechanics and Automotive Mechanics have this in common. There are correct ways to present information, and these ways carry more meaning than scribbling, poor spelling, and bad punctuation. Much in the way that a poor data or Internet signal loses clarity when you are watching a video; poor communication looses clarity and does not communicate meaning or looses the ability to convey meaning.
I grade on grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. Not critically, but gross negligence will be noticed and graded.
