7th Grade New Mexico History

The flag of the U.S. state of New Mexico consists of a red sun symbol of the Zia people on a field of yellow, and was officially introduced in 1925. It was designed in 1920, to highlight the state's Native American Pueblo and Nuevo México Hispano roots.

7th Grade New Mexico History and Geography

“Before we can set out on the road to success, we have to know where are going, and before we can know that, we must determine where we have been in the past.”

John F. Kennedy

Hello! My name is Valerie Armijo, and I will be your child’s New Mexico History teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. I am very excited to be taking this journey with you and your child through New Mexico’s past. Every student can achieve academic success through individual and group efforts and a creative approach to studying history. History can be interesting with learning being the outcome.

Class Information and Guidelines

Periodic quizzes will be given covering the Bell Ringer information. These quizzes will be open note, so make sure you are completing your Bell Ringers every day!

Units: Curriculum content will be covered in units correlating to the Common Core and the State Standards. Assessments will be given at the end of each unit.

Projects/Lessons: Projects and lessons covering content and its relevance are assigned in each unit. Projects will be completed both individually, or as a group, using Google Meet while we are in the online learning model. There may be short homework assignments pertaining to the project or lesson, but the major components will be completed during the class time.

Assessments: Assessments will be given throughout a unit of study with a comprehensive assessment following the completion of a unit. Assessments can be in the form of tests, essays, activities, and projects.

Notes: As part of the class, we will take notes over the material. Comprehensive assessments will cover notes and the assigned chapter. Notes, the textbook, and assignments/activities may be used for assessments.

Homework: Daily homework is not assigned, but students may have work to complete for each unit that includes readings, assignments, and unit handouts, if they did not complete these during class time. Other homework may be assigned pertaining to unit projects on an as needed basis.

Absent/Late Work: ALL absent or late work MUST be turned in, in a timely manner. Late work will only be accepted during the current unit. There may be a reduction in points if the work is not turned in on time. Once the unit has ended, late work pertaining to that unit will not be accepted. Students submitting work due to absence, will follow the district policy. You can find all the assignments in Google Classroom or on www.planbook.com .
