AHS Varsity and JV Softball

by Marissa Montoya

Softball at Albuquerque High is in season and everyone is excited. Softball is a big deal at AHS. The softball team does many of fundraisers so they can get new balls, uniforms, equipment as the season starts there will be scrimmages before the official games start.

The Varsity Girls took District against Atrisco Heritage High last year. The district has changed for the high schools the new district means the girls will be playing for a chance to win state. There is a Jv team and Varsity, Varsity is full, but JV could use a few more players.

The girl’s drills are different than the indoor sports. They have to deal with the weather, which isn't up to the girls because they can not control the weather they have to pull through. The girls do a lot of drills involving the weather being able to handle the sun and wind basically anything the climate throws at them.

The ladies raised 300 dollars themselves for things like the sweatpants, sweaters, shirts, uniforms to include belts, visors, socks, pants and their jersey. The coaches this year are super excited. They can’t wait to see what this year brings. We have a new JV coach and the Varsity coaches have been here for two years. The girls that are in a winter sport and want to try out for softball will have to wait until their sport is over in order to try out for softball. The females that try out will try out for a few days land the coaches will tell them if they made it or not. If some girls don’t make a team, they should keep working over the course of off season and try out again. There is always room for improvement.
