In Loving Memory of Karina and Vanessa Contreras and Family

Albuquerque High School staff and students were devastated to hear about the death of Albuquerque High’s Senior Karina Contreras and Sophomore Vanessa Contreras as well as their little sister and parents who died in a car accident in Mexico.

On Friday, February 15, 2019 Karina, Vanessa, and their family were driving to see their family in Mexico, but they were killed in a car accident. According to KOB News 4 the family were traveling to Mexico to surprise visit their family for the long weekend (Presidents Day) , but they were killed in Villahumada, road Panamericana which is between Juarez and Chihuahua. Speeding may had been a factor and two people were ejected out of the vehicle. Authorities say that the vehicle rolled. “I will never forget them, and I will always love them” said Britney Marquez.

A memorial vigil will be held on February 20, 2019 at San Jose Church at 2401 Broadway Blvd SE, all are invited. Burial services for the family were paid. A GoFundMe website has been set up for the family to also pay for the plague on their resting place. Burial services for the Contreras Macias family was on Sunday, February 17, 2019 in Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua in Mexico.

Albuquerque High is putting together events that will donate to the Contreras Macias Family. On March 10, 2019 there will be a profit event at Imperial Event Center at 933 Sunset Rd SW food and drinks will be served and other activities will be held. Also on March 30, 2019 a dance for profit at the Sundara Event Center at 4206 Tower Rd SW.

Karina, Vanessa and the Contreras Macias Family will always be remembered by family, friends, and teachers here at Albuquerque High School and family in Mexico.
