Course Description: The Spanish program is based on three tools to communication; lexicon needed to convey meaning (vocabulary), the ability to put the words correctly into coherent sentences (grammar), and awareness of the customs of those with whom they are communicating (culture). Each unit presented adheres to a specific communicative theme. The students are given the vocabulary, grammar, and cultural background they need to convey information concerning the theme in order to succeed in a communicative situation. Class activities and assignments will include oral drills, recorded materials, structured and free conversations, skits, in-class and home readings, short writing assignments, games, videos, and class projects. Students will have various opportunities to work individually as well as in a small group setting. Speaking Spanish in the classroom is expected.
