Writing Across Institutions 2022

Writing Across the Curriculum Program, AppState, April 8, 2022

Welcome...

and thanks for joining us for Writing Across Institutions 2022. We are thrilled to get to welcome everyone back to campus for an awesome in-person event!

Location & Parking

The conference will be held in the newly renovated Sanford Hall, which is just a short walk from Rivers Street. Everything will take place on the first floor.

Participants are asked to park at the Rivers Street Parking Deck, which is located on Rivers Street between Katherine Harper Hall and Garwood Hall. Look for the pedestrian bridge over the street, as it is the quickest and easiest way to get from your car to Sanford Hall. When you enter, you will use the code WAI2022. This will allow you to park free of charge for the entire day.

(This map shows the parking deck in relation to the conference site.)

Snacks

There will be coffee and sweet treats from Local Lion served in the morning and lunch from Stick Boy Bread Co. served in the afternoon. There are water fountains and fill stations nearby, so don’t forget your water bottle!

Masks

There is no longer a mask requirement on the Appalachian State campus; however, we respect anyone’s wishes to wear a mask during the event.

About WAI

Since 2009, Appalachian State University's Writing Across the Curriculum Program has sponsored an annual Writing Across Institutions (WAI) conference to support community college faculty by providing them access to best practices in the teaching of writing, scholars from the field, and an opportunity to meet in conversation with other NC community college and Appalachian faculty. Appalachian’s WAC Program was designed to create opportunities for faculty to connect writing program goals and outcomes in order to better serve students, and the WAI conference extends that conversation to community college faculty in order to help strengthen instruction for transfer students.

About WAC

WAC brings together faculty from all levels, from other institutions, and from the greater community in conversation about writing and teaching writing. Investing in the premise of the vertical writing curriculum, WAC fosters a greater awareness of the need to transfer skills and knowledge across levels, disciplines, and experiences. About the VWC

The Vertical Writing Curriculum was designed to give students continued support for writing during their careers at Appalachian, with writing experience each year and a structure to archive writing for both students and the university.

This is the infographic for AppState's Vertical Writing Curriculum. It shows an image of students traversing up a mountain and lists the shared student learning outcomes for each level of the curriculum. A fully accessible PDF of the image is available by clicking the link in the caption.
