and thanks for joining us for Writing Across Institutions 2023. We are thrilled to get to welcome everyone to campus!
Location & Parking

The conference will be held in the newly renovated Sanford Hall, which is just a short walk from the Library. Everything will take place on the first floor.
Participants are asked to park at the College Street Parking Deck (Library), which is located on College Street right off of East King Street next to the Turchin Center. When you enter, you will be given a parking permit. This will allow you to park free of charge for the entire day. (If you will be arriving later than 10:00am, please email terzakenks@appstate.edu as we will need license plate information from you.)

There will be coffee and sweet treats from Local Lion served in the morning and lunch from Stick Boy Bread Co. served in the afternoon. There are water fountains and fill stations nearby, so don’t forget your water bottle!

There is no longer a mask requirement on the Appalachian State campus; however, we respect anyone’s wishes to wear a mask during the event.

About WAI
Since 2009, Appalachian State University's Writing Across the Curriculum Program has sponsored an annual Writing Across Institutions (WAI) conference to support community college faculty by providing them access to best practices in the teaching of writing, scholars from the field, and an opportunity to meet in conversation with other NC community college and Appalachian faculty. Appalachian’s WAC Program was designed to create opportunities for faculty to connect writing program goals and outcomes in order to better serve students, and the WAI conference extends that conversation to community college faculty in order to help strengthen instruction for transfer students.

WAC brings together faculty from all levels, from other institutions, and from the greater community in conversation about writing and teaching writing. Investing in the premise of the vertical writing curriculum, WAC fosters a greater awareness of the need to transfer skills and knowledge across levels, disciplines, and experiences. About the VWC
The Vertical Writing Curriculum was designed to give students continued support for writing during their careers at Appalachian, with writing experience each year and a structure to archive writing for both students and the university.
