You are here because you want to learn more about acting.
Respect the Course:
Take this course seriously, and you will learn a lot.
I will do my best to take outside factors into consideration but- being in a production does not take precedence over the work in this course.
• Please apply what you learn in this course to productions
Respect Other People:
Be on time- class starts at 3:30pm promptly and ends at 5:00pm. If you aren’t here for any reason, you are late.
Lateness counts – 2 lates = 1 absence
No cell phones ever, no texting. If you are caught texting you will be marked absent. If you persist, I will ask you to leave.
Be professional and polite when giving and receiving feedback or in class discussions
Respect the Work:
Work outside of class
You must complete all homework- log of rehearsals, scene analysis, readings– before your final project presentation
You are expected and required to meet outside of class to work on projects. If you don’t work on your project, you will fail the assignment.
Clear analysis, consistent rehearsals, and completing homework assignments is required to pass this class.
To prepare you for industry standards, no late work will be accepted.
On regular class days, come dressed to play.
On dress rehearsal and performance days, dress as your character, with clothes you already own. (There is no expectation for you purchase costumes for this class.)
Students are required to attend all class meetings.
● You get three (3) absences for the WHOLE semester. I do not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences.
● On the 4th absence your FINAL GRADE will be reduced 1/3 of a letter grade. Each subsequent absence will result in another 1/3 of a letter grade reduction.
● If you miss eight (8) classes- you will automatically receive an “F” for the course. ☹
To prepare you for industry standards, I am asking that we abide by the following:
● MISSING A PERFORMANCE:
● If you are late or absent on a performance day (unless there it is a University Sponsored Event and you provide documentation) you will receive a “0” for the assignment.
● You will not be allowed to make up the assignment.
• If your partner is on time and in class, they will be allowed to make up their grade.
● If you have a University Sponsored Event: (field trip, competition, performance, etc.) Please let me know a.s.a.p. so that I can work with you to make up any missed assignments.
· You must turn in an official description sheet, with contact information at least, 1 week before the event.
· Failure to provide documentation does not oblige me to honor the absence.
· You are allowed a minimum of two absences per year for religious observances.
· Notice must be given by the student to the instructor before the absence occurs and no later than three weeks after the start of the semester in which the absence(s) will occur. Arrangements will be made to make up work missed by these religious observances, without penalty to the student. For the purposes of this policy, ASU defines the term “religious observance” to include religious holidays, holy days, or similar observances associated with a student’s faith that require absence from class.
I look forward to learning with and from you and sharing the joy of Acting with you this semester.
Acting is a collaborative art
The energy in the room and the energy WE bring in the room is part of the experience.
Collaboration and listening are essential.
Our PRESENCE in the room contributes to the experience we are all having.
Let's make this environment a fun one!
It is my intent that students from all diverse backgrounds and perspectives be well-served by this course, that students' learning needs be addressed both in and out of class, and that the diversity that the students bring to this class be viewed as a resource, strength and benefit.
