Dr. Wolsiefer is a member of the Psychological Science Masters Program at Appalachian State University. She will be accepting Masters student applications for Fall 2025 admission.
Dr. Wolsiefer usually gauges need for undergraduate research assistants during the advising period in the semester before new students would join the lab. If you are interested in joining the lab, complete the form below and email Dr. Wolsiefer about your interest.
Why should you join our lab?
Our lab focuses on the study of stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. For example, does training reduce bias in a healthcare setting? How do implicit and explicit biases get communicated via verbal and nonverbal behavior? How does completing a common measure of implicit bias impact participant's thoughts and feelings about their own biases?
Joining our lab gives you hands-on psychology research experience. Students in the lab have opportunities to develop skills pertaining to literature reviews, designing studies, running research participants, the use of Qualtrics and SONA, data analysis (including coding in R), and so much more!
We love having new lab members! Please fill out the interest form and contact Dr. Wolsiefer with any questions!
Notes from previous lab students
"I first became interested in being a research assistant after being a student in Dr. Wolsiefer's research methods class. I am interested in data visualization and statistical analysis. I have enjoyed being a research assistant for my final few semesters at Appalachian State University, and I look forward to using what I have learned in the real world after I graduate."
-Savannah Pardue
"Taking research methods made me realize how much I enjoy the research process, so working in the lab has allowed me to deep dive into that research world and learn a variety of essential skills I would've never otherwise been exposed to."
-Maria Harbaugh
"I have been a research assistant under Dr. Wolsiefer for a couple semesters now and have loved it. I enjoy getting direct experience with research and being able to collaborate with other students on certain topics. I am excited for the future research we will do and to be able to work on my thesis under Dr. Wolsiefer''
