I feel a great responsibility to you as your instructor. Your time is just as precious as mine and so I want to take full advantage of this very limited resource. You can expect me to:
a. Honor your time and your commitment to this class by offering guidance and feedback in multiple ways
b. Create a safe, open, and welcoming environment for all students with differing ways of thinking and varied modes of communication
c. Be respectful of your opinions, beliefs, heritage, and ideas
d. Offer to be a co-learner with you as we take a journey in this class together
e. Use a variety of pedagogical techniques to reach many different learners
f. Challenge you to think broadly and in new ways
Your active and persistent engagement with your fellow classmates and the course materials will provide you with a firm foundation for successful completion of the course. I expect that you will:
a. Approach the class with a positive attitude in which you desire to learn from the materials and your fellow classmates
b. Consider this class a journey in which I am not an instructor but rather a facilitator or co-learner (or spelunker/cave-explorer)
c. Actively participate in all classes (in-person, synchronous zoom, asynchronously)
d. Read/watch/complete the required readings/videos/assignments
e. Actively engage with your fellow students in person and online
Netiquette, a social code that defines “good” online behavior, is something to keep in mind during your online course interactions. Writing using the internet will be one of the major means of communication you have with classmates and your instructor, so it is especially important to do this effectively. Follow the guidelines in the infographic on the left to leave your mark as a knowledgeable, respectful, and polite student who is also positioned to succeed professionally.
These Netiquette guidelines were established by the other ASU (Arizona State University) and can be found on their web page with full alt text to the image/infographic here.
