Our University Honors program requires 24 Honors credits. For a student who plans to be at App for four years, this is, on average, one 3-credit Honors course per semester. The coursework breaks-down as follows:
three 3-credit interdisciplinary Honors seminars, each of which can count towards general education requirements
one 3-credit Senior Honors Thesis, which can be taken as a course in the student’s major discipline if that discipline offers departmental Honors.
one 3-credit Honors course in your major. Many majors offer Honors sections of required coursework. Honors students can also use honors contracts (a way to make an existing course an Honors course for you) to fulfill this requirement.
three additional 3-credit Honors courses. Most Honors students fulfill this requirement through a mix of Honors sections of general education courses and Honors sections of courses in their major and minor. They can also complete up to two honors contracts. Additionally, any graduate coursework taken as an undergraduate is considered Honors coursework and half the credits students earn abroad will count as Honors credits.
an International Education experience, which we encourage you to fulfill through an education abroad experience. Completing an Honors seminar developing intercultural competencies also fulfills this requirement.
If you will be transferring 45 or more hours to App, our 15-hour Upper-Division Honors track might be a better fit for you. You can read more about both programs at https://honors.appstate.edu/academics/requirements.
