Project Coordinator, Appalachian Medical Reserve Corps
Kira moved to the Boone area when she was 9 years old and considers the High Country her home! She graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in Environmental Anthropology and a minor in Spanish. Kira spent her first 2 years post-baccalaureate with Public Health AmeriCorps where she was the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Team Lead. In this position, she helped stand up the first MRC unit in Watauga County, the Appalachian MRC, which serves the 25 counties of Western North Carolina. When Kira finished her 2 years with Public Health AmeriCorps, she started working full time for a local nonprofit and also moved into her current part-time, grant-funded position as the APP MRC Program Coordinator. Through this work, Kira has witnessed the immense strength and compassion of folks in Western NC. She is grateful to be a part of a team that focuses on the public health needs of rural communities, especially in her own community!
