Clark and Menefee: Croffead House Recreation
This project was part of my first architectural studio, serving as an introduction to key concepts in architectural design and analysis. The images provided give a brief overview of the project, including its scope and objectives. Through this experience, I gained valuable skills in researching and studying both buildings and the architects who designed them. This process deepened my understanding of architectural intent and the environmental influences behind a structure’s design.
Additionally, this project allowed me to enhance my technical skills, particularly in Revit, as I worked to develop accurate representations and visualizations of the building. One of the most significant lessons I took from this particular structure was the intricate relationship between a building and its natural environment. I learned how architecture can respond to topography and landscape, creating a connection that enhances both the structure and its surroundings.
F.A.R.M Cafe Remodel - Downtown Boone, NC
This design was part of my third architectural studio and focused on redesigning an existing building on King Street in Boone, NC. The assignment involved transforming the structure to accommodate a restaurant on the first level and residential spaces on the top two levels. A key objective of the project was to incorporate masonry elements and ensure that the redesigned building aligned aesthetically with the character and atmosphere of downtown Boone.
Throughout the design, I primarily utilized Revit and SketchUp to develop the design and produce detailed visualizations. As this was a group project, I also gained valuable experience in collaboration and problem-solving. Working with a challenging partner taught me how to navigate team dynamics effectively, maintain open communication, and ensure project progress despite obstacles.
This project strengthened my technical proficiency and highlighted the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and contextual design in architecture.
Twinmotion Exploration - Modernized Cabin
This project marked my first experience working with Twinmotion. I began by creating a simple design in SketchUp, which I then uploaded into Twinmotion for further development. My goal was to design a modern cabin in the woods, emphasizing a strong connection with nature. The focus was on simplicity, allowing me to explore and refine my skills with Twinmotion’s tools and techniques.
Throughout this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the relationship between the interior and exterior of a structure. I learned how important it is for a design to reflect and complement its natural surroundings. It also provided valuable insight into the use of visualization software for creating immersive, realistic representations of architectural concepts.
CNC Furniture Design
For this project, I was tasked with designing and creating a functional piece of furniture. I chose to make a plant stand, as one of my personal hobbies is caring for plants. The first slide illustrates my initial inspiration, a preliminary sketch, and the final design as visualized in SketchUp.
The second slide showcases my design layout on a 4’x8’ plywood sheet, which was then transferred into Fusion for preparation to be input into the CNC machine. The slide also depicts the CNC machine in action, cutting out the individual pieces of the stand.
The following slide outlines the step-by-step process of assembling the stand, which included adding extra support and hardware to ensure its stability and functionality. Finally, the last slide presents the completed product after assembly and painting.
This project provided invaluable hands-on experience and taught me the intricacies of the planning and fabrication process. It highlighted the importance of precision, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt throughout each stage of production.
