Week four already! WOW! Where did time go! The past two weeks we have finished working on fourth grade math and now we've been working on volume and multiplication. In literacy we are diving deeper into the Phantom Toll Both, Identifying prepositions, and making our own snapshots. (Check in with your kid to learn more.) We are also continuing to learn about wordplay: homophons, homographs, idioms, metaphors, similes and more! We made our own snapshot of an imaginary school called “Abandon”. In Health, we are continuing to learn about social and mental health. Today our lesson was on laughter. We all laughed as Mr. Pollock promised. Mr. Pollock also makes sure we do a community circle every day to hear from every student. Today we did one on what we are thankful for and why. It’s called Thankful Thursday. Oh, and we got a new student this week named Syrous. Welcome to Rieke! Maya and West won the award for Listening at our first assembly yesterday. Way to go! Tomorrow we will find out who will win as a Start Student in class.
Everyone has finished their partner poems- and they look amazing!!! We are going to do a gallery walk tomorrow. The class marble jar is almost full too! Just a little longer, and we will have it up to the top! Also, we started MAPs testing on Thursday

Wow! We just finished week 2 and it’s flying by because we are having so much fun!! This week we reviewed 4th grade concepts like multiplication, perimeter and area. We have been finishing up our partner poems in writing. Each student interviewed another and then wrote a poem about them using figurative language. We are starting our first unit for Literacy, which focuses on word play! Homophones, homographs, idioms and other word play like puns. Today we did something called the “Marshmallow Challenge”. Hudson, West and Ethan made the tallest structure. On Fridays we get to write about a photo Mr. Pollock took and then share it with others in the class and we get to do smart shots! Check in with your child to see what those are. We got our first packet of homework and it’s due next Friday!
In the classroom we have a photo wall, star student (Carina got it this time!), the writing process, schedule, white board, and projector screen along with class projects. We are still in the process of learning all of the routines and expectations. Mr. Pollock has so many of them!! One that many of us are looking forward to is filling up the marble jar. We are doing many fun things in our specials classes, so please check in with your kiddo and see what they have to say. Mr. Pollock also took photos for all of us to look at and enjoy.
