My name is Cassie Canales, and this will be my fifth year teaching at Lewis. I've been teaching in Portland for 11 years. I have a passion for social justice, flexible seating, reading and technology and I also love doing art projects with students. As an educator I believe in integrating technology and fostering student Independence in learning. There is not a lot of “sit and get” in my classroom, students spend the majority of their time working independently or in small groups to maximize their individualized learning. I also believe in educating the whole child and creating a community where every student feels understood and valued.
Outside of school I am an avid reader, love to swim, and am a huge baseball fan. My favorite teams are the Atlanta Braves and the Seattle Mariners. I live in Southeast Portland with my mother Debi and my dog Daisy.
An open line of communication between home and school is so important for student success. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to stop by after school or email me. Also be sure to check out our class Twitter page.
