uNIT 4 - oUR nATURAL wORLD (10/28 - 11/15)

In Unit 4 we will explore our natural world. We will investigate soil, how it is made and what it is made of. We will also research the different ways the earth can change. Slow changes will include a variety of weathering and erosion caused by the wind, rain and gravity. Fast changes will include volcanoes, landslides, earthquakes, tornados and more. In this unit we will also discuss natural resources and determine if they are renewable or non-renewable. We will learn how we can conserve our natural resources, and how reducing, reusing and recycling can help our planet.

Getting Ready for Science (8/15 - 8/23)

We have spent the first week of school getting our students ready for our year in science! We have learned about tools, safety and the scientific method. We had a blast experimenting on Friday, while learning the steps of the scientific method!

Unit 1 - Matter (8/26- 9/13)

Our first unit of study in science will be over the topic of Matter and will begin this week. We will investigate the properties of matter such as buoyancy, magnetism and mass. We will also learn about the properties of each state of matter, Solid, Liquid and Gas. Matter is a fun unit that will last about 3 weeks. As a district we only have 2 to 3 major science test each year. However, we will assess at the end of each unit to determine our students' understanding of the content before moving on to a new unit.

Unit 2 - CHANGING Matter (9/13- 10/4)

In this unit we will research now matter can change when heated or cooled. We will study melting, freezing, evaporation and condensation. This unit will also include how matter can be put together to form mixtures.

Unit 3 - Force & Energy (10/7 - 10/25)

Our Energy Unit is so much fun! We will be learning about 4 different types of energy; sound, light, thermal and mechanical. We will also investigate pushes and pulls and the forces that create them. We will spend the last week of this unit applying what we have learned about force and energy to create activities for our 3rd grade Fair! The students will create games for the younger grades to come and experience during the school day.
