Dear Parents & Students,

Welcome to World Language Level I!  We are excited to begin this journey with you.  Our district goal as World Language teachers is to create a world in which culturally aware students engage as global citizens through proficient multilingual communication.  To achieve this goal, students will be assessed in the three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, presentational) according to their target proficiency level.  Below is an outline of the grading scale according to proficiency levels:

Novice Low = 65

Novice Low+ = 70

Novice Mid = 75

Novice Mid+ = 80

Novice High = 85

Novice High+ = 90

Intermediate Low = 95

Intermediate Low+ = 100

By the end of each unit on the summative assessments, students are expected to perform at least at the novice mid level.  Students will be graded according to a (standardized) rubric which will determine their proficiency level.  Grades will be assigned based on the rubric and the proficiency demonstrated.

We look forward to working with you and your student this year on the road to proficiency.

Thank you,

Wylie ISD World Language Teachers
