Hello, my name is Kira Crossley-Rose and I go to Seek Academy. I'm in the 4th grade and I love
to dance, but not just any dance, I love ballet! I have always wanted to be a ballerina for as long
as I can remember. One day I turned on my TV, wanting to watch Disney Channel, but I went to
the wrong channel. On the screen I saw pretty girls with their hair up in buns and big tutus. They
had pointed-toes and that's when I knew I wanted to be just like them, a ballerina! I imagined
myself on tv in their place and it made my heart flutter.
A couple of years ago, my mom signed me up for double dutch camp. It was really fun
and I did it with one of my friends. It really helped me with my foot work. My coaches were nice
and helped me out alot. They even taught me tricks and I remember thinking “ hmmm, this might
really help me in ballet in the future.” I also did Gymnastics for a couple of months. I thought it
was going to be similar to ballet but it was not at all. It was a lot of back-flipping and cart
wheeling. My coach would always tell us to stretch our legs and to point our toes. I thought
about ballet again. “ This might help me get more flexibility for ballet” I thought to myself. But
sometimes at practice I felt left out because I was not there for long like the other girls. I wanted
to like gymnastics but I didn’t get the same feeling I got when I watched those ballerinas on TV
that day. Attending gymnastics didn’t last very long. I had to stop because of Covid.
During the pandemic, I used this time to perfect my ballet skills. I would go to my room,
put on a tutu and socks and I would mimic the ballerinas on the TV. I don't know why, but I had
been shy to ask my mom to sign me up for ballet all until now, just this week! I finally had the
courage to ask my mom to sign me up and you know what? She agreed. I’m so happy! It feels
like my dreams are coming true. In my future, I see myself as one of those pretty girls with buns
in their hair, big tutus and pointed toes. I am a dreamer. I am a believer. At Seek Academy, one
of our values is “ Never Give Up.” I will try my best to live my dream to become a ballerina one
day. This is who I was meant to be. I am Kira Crossley-Rose, future ballerina, dance teacher,
and artist.
