Information for All Classes

Forms were due August 18.

$25 Activity Fee was due Friday, August 18. Dr. Boone notified all parents who requested an extension that we are happy to provide additional time or to set up a payment plan. We are happy to work with you! This fee applies to First and Second year band students only and covers their uniform shirt and class method book. We write receipts for all money turned in to the band directors.

Uniform requirements are listed in our band handbook. The uniform is required for public performances. For returning students, they will need black pants, black belt, black socks, and black shoes. For beginners, they will need blue jeans (no rips or tears), black or brown belt, socks, and athletic shoes. If our student is not in uniform, they may not participate in performances.

The Green Book!

Students in ALL band classes will need a copy of our method book for their instrument. This is the same book we used last year, so returning students do NOT need to buy it again. The price of the book is included in the $25 Activity Fee assessed to all first year band students.

Meet Mr. Jeremy Dergent:

Hello! My name is Jeremy Dergent and I will be your new Assistant Band Director! I got my degree in music education from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and I am a clarinet player. While working on my degree I worked as a marching assistant with the C.E. King High School Band. After graduating I worked as the Assistant Band Director in Hemphill ISD. When I'm not being a band nerd my hobbies include playing video games, watching and playing sports, cooking and eating, and playing with my three dogs. I am excited to start this new chapter in life with C.E. King Middle School.

Meet Ms. Catherine Ruiz:

Hi!

My name is Catherine Ruiz and I am so excited to join the team at C.E. King Middle School! I received my Music Education degree from Sam Houston State University in 2020 and started my career on staff at MacArthur High School in Aldine ISD for the last 2 years. This is going to be my 3rd year of teaching in the Houston area and I am so grateful for the privilege of getting to share my passion for music with my students. Whenever I am not teaching, I enjoy staying active and exploring what downtown Houston has to offer. I look forward to creating a vibrant and inspiring environment for our talented students at C.E.
