There are a number of ways to use technology as a means of facilitating student learning. Many of these tools are free to use and already attached to software that we're using in the district.
Accessibility Extensions for Chrome (2020-05-04 at 07:06 GMT-7)
Here's the session replay of my Assistive Tech PD back in May. It's about 45 minutes, but has a bunch of info about how to use these tools with your students! Also, the list of resources is in the Doc below.
Accessibility Tools Links
Voice Typing - Turn on your Chromebook or Laptop microphone and Google Voice Typing will allow you to "write" as you talk. You'll need to punctuate out loud (see the video), but it's a great way to get a first draft "written". Feel free to share this video with students!
Read&Write.webm
Read&Write - This Google extension will do text-to-speech in both documents and on webpages. It also will do "hover speech" wherever your cursor is.
GoogleTranslateExtension.webm
Google Translate - If students need translations, this video will show how to use the Google Translate Chrome Extension to help them get started.
MercuryReader.webm
Mercury Reader - this Chrome extension allows the user to view a website as "text only". This is particularly helpful for articles that might be surrounded by advertisements or "click bait".
GoogleMeetClosedCaptions.webm
A quick overview of how to turn Closed Captions on in Google Meet so that you can see the words that people are saying and who is saying them.
