Welcome to this Summer edition of Roe Green Round Up.
As we come to the end of the academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the warm welcome I have received since joining the school in the summer term.
It has been a pleasure getting to know our wonderful school community. I have been incredibly impressed by the kindness, enthusiasm and positive attitudes of our children. They are a real credit to both the school and their families, I feel very fortunate to be part of such a caring and supportive community.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to all parents and carers for your continued support throughout this term. Your partnership with the school plays a vital role in helping our children thrive and achieve their very best.
As we begin the summer break, I hope that all of our families have a restful, enjoyable, and well deserved holiday. Whether you are travelling, spending time with family and friends or simply taking the opportunity to relax, I hope the weeks ahead provide plenty of happy memories.
I look forward to welcoming everyone back in September for another exciting year of learning, growth, and success.

As the school year draws to a close, we would like to say a huge thank you to our Deputy Head, Mrs Byrne, for everything she has done for Roe Green Junior School.
After 27 wonderful years at Roe Green, Mrs Byrne has made the decision to retire at the end of the summer term. Throughout her time with us, she has made an incredible contribution to our school community, inspiring generations of children and supporting countless staff. Her dedication, kindness and unwavering commitment have left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
Mrs Byrne will be greatly missed by everyone at Roe Green, but we are so proud of all she has achieved and wish her every happiness as she begins this exciting new chapter.
Happy Retirement, Mrs Byrne! Thank you for everything, you will always be a valued part of the Roe Green family and you will be greatly missed.
4J's Differences Shine Bright Assembly
This term, 4J delivered a powerful and inspiring assembly celebrating the importance of diversity and individuality.
Through drama, narration, music and thoughtful messages, the children explored what a world would be like if everyone were the same. They showed that without our unique qualities, talents and experiences, life would lose its colour, meaning and purpose.
The children spoke proudly about what makes them special and reminded us that our differences should be celebrated. A highlight of the assembly was their moving performance of This Is Me, which shared a powerful message about acceptance, confidence and being proud of who you are.
The assembly also showed how kindness, respect and unity help us learn from one another and grow together. The children demonstrated that our differences make us stronger and that everyone has something valuable to contribute.
4J should be extremely proud of the mature and important message they shared with the school community. Their assembly reminded us all that our differences are what make the world such a wonderful place.
4R’s Journey to 2050:
Where Technology meets Humanity
What might school look like in the year 2050? 4R explored this question in their assembly, The School of 2050.Through drama, technology-themed visuals, sound effects and thoughtful dialogue, the children took the audience on a journey from a present day classroom to a futuristic world shaped by artificial intelligence.
The children explored both the benefits and limitations of technology, discovering that while AI can provide information and support learning, qualities such as creativity, kindness, confidence and friendship remain essential to education.
The performance showed the children’s creativity, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the performance, bringing their roles as students, robot teachers and AI assistants to life.The assembly concluded with a final message “The future needs technology, but it also needs us!”
We are incredibly proud of all the children for their hardwork and dedication in preparing for the assembly. Thank you to all the parents and family members who joined us to support the children.
Year 3 and Year 4 Become Online Safety Experts
Our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils recently took part in an engaging and interactive Online Safety Assembly Workshop, helping them to develop the knowledge and confidence they need to stay safe online.
During the workshop, the children actively participated in a range of role-play activities, allowing them to explore real-life online situations in a fun and memorable way. Through these practical scenarios, they learned how to make sensible choices when using the internet, recognise potential risks and understand the importance of protecting their personal information.
The workshop encouraged pupils to think carefully about their online behaviour, the people they communicate with and what to do if they ever feel worried or uncomfortable while using digital devices. They also learned the importance of speaking to a trusted adult if they encounter anything that makes them feel unsafe.
Our pupils demonstrated excellent enthusiasm throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions and taking part with confidence.
We are proud of the way our Year 3 and Year 4 children embraced the learning, and we know they will continue to make positive and sensible choices whenever they are online.
Year 5's Long-Awaited Trip to Gordon Brown
Year 5 finally made their long-awaited trip to Gordon Brown, and what a fantastic experience it was! The children enjoyed an unforgettable week filled with adventure, teamwork and fun. To make it even better, the sun shone throughout the week, allowing everyone to make the most of the outdoor activities.
The children took part in a wide range of exciting challenges, including a night walk, meeting the friendly animals, shelter building and testing their aim in archery. They also showed great courage and determination while climbing and taking on thrilling high ropes activities, pushing themselves to incredible heights. These were just some of the many brilliant activities on offer.
Throughout the week, the children demonstrated resilience, confidence and excellent teamwork. They challenged themselves, supported one another and created memories that will last a lifetime.
It was a truly memorable trip, and Year 5 returned home with smiles on their faces, a sense of achievement and plenty of stories to share. A huge thank you to the staff at Gordon Brown for providing such an amazing experience, and to everyone who helped make the trip such a success.
Jam Packed Summer Term for Year 6
It has been a very busy term for Year 6! We started with a busy few weeks preparing for the SATs and all the children and staff were relieved and happy when they were done! Well done to all of our Year 6 children for all your efforts - we are certain you will do yourselves proud in Year 7!
We were then able to begin enjoying the term and have had a chance to play cricket and rugby outside. We have also done lots of athletics to help get us ready for Sports Day. We have also been following the Football World Cup and learning about tennis with Wimbledon highlights.
The learning of course carried on and we have been reading and learning about a fantastic book called ‘The Unforgotten Coat’. This gave us the chance to learn all about Mongolia, where Chingis and Nergui came from.
In Geography we have been learning about the Rockies, and in History, the ancient kingdom of Benin.
One of the best things we did this term was of course our trip to the Royal Courts of Justice. We learnt about a real court case and even acted it out in a real court room! This was followed by a picnic in the park - a great day.
We are now ready to leave Roe Green and begin our secondary school adventure. Thank you everyone - we have had the best time!
Class of 2026: Year 6 Graduation
Today was a truly emotional day for our Year 6 children as they said their final goodbye to Roe Green Junior School.
Over the past four years, they have filled our classrooms, corridors and playgrounds with laughter, determination, kindness and unforgettable memories. From class assemblies and winter productions to sporting triumphs in local leagues, this cohort has embraced every opportunity and made their mark on our school in so many special ways.
They have grown from young children into confident, resilient and remarkable young people and we could not be prouder of everything they have achieved during their time at Roe Green. Their successes have been many, but it is their friendships, character and spirit that we will remember most.
Today, we celebrated their journey with a beautiful graduation ceremony and wonderful performances from each class. There were smiles, laughter, proud moments and of course a few tears as we reflected on just how much these children have accomplished and how much they mean to our school community.
While it is difficult to say goodbye, we are incredibly excited to see what the future holds for each and every one of them. As they begin their next chapter at secondary school, we send them off with our love, pride and very best wishes.
Year 6, thank you for the memories, the smiles and the joy you have brought to Roe Green. You will always be a part of our school family and we know you will go on to achieve amazing things.

Year 6 Take Inspiration from New York's Iconic Artists
As part of the Art curriculum in Year 6, the classes have been looking at the architecture of New York and the work of the famous New York artist - Keith Haring. In these images 6R took some of their sketches and designs and created a collage of words and images, and shapes and lines to build a collage on cloth inspired by another famous New York artist - Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Home of Cricket
Year 6 recently enjoyed an exciting visit to the Home of Cricket, Lord's Cricket Ground to watch Middlesex Women take on Sydney Women in a thrilling T20 match.
Middlesex got off to a strong start, building a steady partnership and playing some excellent cricket. The batters struck several beautiful shots around the ground and looked in control during the early stages of the innings. However, as the match progressed, Sydney's bowlers began to take regular wickets and gradually shifted the momentum in their favour. By the end of the innings, Middlesex had set Sydney a target of 109 runs to win.
Sydney came flying out of the blocks in their chase and immediately put the Middlesex bowlers under pressure. Their batters played a range of impressive shots all around the ground, entertaining the crowd with numerous boundaries and sixes. With confidence growing throughout the innings, Sydney comfortably reached their target and secured victory.
For many of our Year 6 pupils, this was their very first experience of watching a live cricket match. The day provided a fantastic opportunity to see high-quality cricket up close and gain a greater appreciation for the sport. The excitement continued after the match, as many pupils were able to meet the players, collect autographs and take photographs. These special memories and keepsakes will undoubtedly be treasured for many years to come.
A wonderful day was had by all, and the visit has inspired many pupils to continue developing their interest and participation in cricket.
Roe Green Reach the Brent League Final In Style
Roe Green booked their place in the Brent League final with a superb 9–3 victory over Preston Park in an entertaining semi-final.
With a place in the final at stake, Preston Park made the brighter start and took an early lead with an excellent counter-attacking goal. However, their advantage was short-lived as Luca combined brilliantly with Elijah, who calmly finished to level the score at 1–1.
Elijah then took the game by the scruff of the neck, scoring two quick goals to complete a fantastic hat-trick. His third goal was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch – a stunning long-range strike that gave Roe Green a 3–1 lead.
To their credit, Preston Park responded superbly, scoring twice just before half-time to send the teams into the break level at 3–3.
The second half produced some of the best football Roe Green have played all season. The team moved the ball brilliantly, created chances with confidence and showed great determination. Luca, Jermaine and super-sub Rafael each scored twice as Roe Green pulled away in spectacular fashion to secure a remarkable 9–3 victory.
Honourable mentions go to Patrick, who made his debut in goal and produced an outstanding performance, making several important saves and to Nicholas, who was rock solid in defence after coming on at half-time.
Congratulations to the entire team on a fantastic performance and good luck in the Brent League final!
Heartbreak for RGJ FC
Roe Green faced St Robert Southwell in the Brent League Final on a warm afternoon, with both teams making a cautious start. The opening stages were evenly contested, as both sides battled for control in midfield and created few clear-cut chances.
Midway through the first half, St Robert Southwell broke the deadlock with a well worked team goal to take a 1–0 lead. Just before the interval, they doubled their advantage with a swift counter-attacking move leaving Roe Green trailing 2–0 at half-time.
With a mountain to climb, RGJ FC came out for the second half with renewed determination. From the restart, they pressed high up the pitch and put the opposition under constant pressure. Their efforts paid off when their goalkeeper rushed off his line to clear the ball, only for it to fall kindly to Elijah, who calmly curled a superb strike into the top corner to make it 2–1.
Sensing the momentum had shifted, Roe Green continued to dominate the second half in search of an equaliser. Their persistence was rewarded with just two minutes remaining when Luca, brilliantly set up by Rafael, fired home to level the score at 2–2, sending the players, coaches and supporters into scenes of celebration.
With less than a minute of normal time remaining, St Robert Southwell restarted play and took a speculative effort from the halfway line. It was an incredible strike that flew into the net, a goal worthy of winning any final.
It was heart breaking for RGJ FC, whose remarkable second-half performance deserved so much more. The team showed tremendous resilience, character and determination to fight back from two goals down against a very strong side.
Every player should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Their courage, teamwork and never-give-up attitude were on display throughout the match, and they represented Roe Green with pride from the first whistle to the last. Well done RGJ FC, you gave everything.
Football's Coming Home
Our school has been buzzing with excitement as children have been celebrating the World Cup in style! From colourful classroom activities to creative displays, the excitement has been felt throughout the school.
The children have produced some truly amazing artwork, showcasing their love of football and the nations taking part in the tournament. From beautifully designed flags to World Cup-inspired posters, their creativity, imagination and hard work have been incredible. Every piece of artwork reflects the enthusiasm and team spirit that the World Cup brings.
As well as learning about different countries and cultures, the children have enjoyed discussing their favourite teams, making predictions and cheering on the players. It has been wonderful to see everyone joining in and celebrating the beautiful game together.
We are incredibly proud of all the children for their fantastic effort and creativity. Their artwork has brightened our classrooms and has brought smiles to everyone's faces.
As the tournament continues, we would like to wish England the very best of luck. The children are keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that football is coming home!

Keeping Cool with Science!
The recent hot weather has certainly been making school days a little warmer, but one of our pupils found a brilliant way to stay cool!
Kevin impressed everyone with his creativity and inventive thinking by designing and making his very own homemade fan. Using simple materials and his understanding of how air moves, he created a clever invention to help keep himself cool during the warm school day.
Kevin's fantastic idea is a wonderful example of how science can be used to solve everyday problems. His curiosity, determination and problem-solving skills shone through as he tested his design and saw it successfully in action.
We are incredibly proud of Kevin for thinking outside the box and applying what he has learned in such a practical and imaginative way. His invention has inspired both staff and classmates and reminds us that great ideas can come from asking questions and experimenting.
Well done, Kevin! We can't wait to see what you invent next.
Exciting New Lunchtime Programme Promotes Positive Play
This term, we were delighted to launch our new lunchtime programme delivered by PlayWell to help make playtimes even more enjoyable, inclusive and engaging for all of our pupils.
The programme is designed to develop important life skills through fun and structured activities. Children are learning the value of positive play, good sportsmanship, teamwork, mentoring and inclusion while taking part in a variety of exciting games and challenges.
With support and guidance from trained adults, pupils are building confidence in working together, encouraging one another and resolving problems positively. They are also learning how to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to join in, helping to create a welcoming and supportive playground where every child feels valued.
It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and kindness shown by our pupils as they embrace these new opportunities. The programme is already having a positive impact, with children demonstrating greater cooperation, respect and friendship during lunchtimes.
We look forward to seeing these valuable skills continue to grow throughout the year, making our playground a happy, active and inclusive place for everyone.
Year 6 Learn Valuable Safety Messages from the Police
Our Year 6 pupils recently took part in an informative and engaging workshop delivered by local police officers, giving them the opportunity to learn about staying safe as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
During the session, the officers spoke to the children about making positive choices, keeping themselves safe and understanding the risks associated with gangs, peer pressure and anti-social behaviour. Pupils were encouraged to think carefully about the importance of choosing good friends, recognising unsafe situations and knowing where to go for help and advice if they ever feel worried or pressured.
The workshop also covered personal safety, online safety and the importance of showing respect for themselves and others. Through discussions and real-life examples, the children gained a greater understanding of how their decisions can have a positive impact on their future.
Staying Safe Online: A Digital Skills Workshop for Years 5 and 6
Pupils in Years 5 and 6 took part in an interactive workshop designed to explore real-life online situations they may encounter. The aim of the session was to help children develop the knowledge and confidence needed to stay safe, responsible, and respectful when using digital technology.
A key focus of the workshop was gaming safety. Many children enjoyed online gaming, and pupils learned how to play safely by protecting personal information, recognising inappropriate behaviour, and understanding how to respond if something did not feel right. They were also introduced to important safety tools such as reporting and blocking features.
The session also covered social media awareness. Even if pupils did not yet use social media, it was important that they understood how these platforms worked. They learned about age restrictions, the importance of thinking carefully before sharing content, and how online communication could impact both themselves and others.
Cyberbullying was explored in detail, helping pupils to understand what it was and how it differed from face-to-face bullying. The workshop highlighted the effects cyberbullying could have and taught pupils how to respond safely, including speaking to a trusted adult, saving evidence, and using reporting tools.
In addition, pupils learned about privacy and security settings. This included guidance on how to protect personal information, create strong passwords, and adjust privacy controls to stay safe online. They were encouraged to think carefully about what information was appropriate to share.
Finally, the concept of digital footprints and online reputation was discussed. Pupils learned that anything shared online could leave a lasting trace and might affect how others viewed them in the future. The importance of making sensible, respectful choices online was emphasised throughout.
Overall, the workshop equipped pupils in Years 5 and 6 with essential skills and understanding to help them navigate the online world safely and responsibly, supporting their wellbeing both then and in the future.

Sports Day at Roe Green
This year marked a new chapter for Sports Day at Roe Green, with the event being transformed into an exciting carousel of activities to ensure it was more inclusive and enjoyable for every child. The new format was a huge success, with even more events taking place and every child having the opportunity to participate in each activity. The smiles, laughter and determination on display throughout the day showed just how much fun everyone had.
The morning saw Years 3 and 4 take to the field, and what a fantastic start it was! We certainly have some incredibly sporty children at Roe Green who gave their all in every event. Congratulations to 3J, who were crowned Year 3 champions, while 4G stormed to victory in Year 4 with an outstanding performance.
In the afternoon, it was the turn of Years 5 and 6. The competition was fierce, with every class showing great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship. Year 5 provided one of the closest contests of the day, with 5R edging to victory by just a single point! In Year 6, 6R were worthy champions, excelling across all of the events to secure first place.
The new Sports Day format was a tremendous success, with children, staff and families all enjoying a wonderful day together. While there were class winners to celebrate, every child should be proud of their effort, enthusiasm and resilience. They were all winners for embracing the spirit of the day and giving every activity their very best.
To round off the celebrations, parents took to the track for a thrilling 60m sprint. It proved to be a fantastic way to end the day, with plenty of laughter, cheering and friendly competition and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone watching and taking part.
Well done to all of our children, staff and families for making this year's Sports Day such a memorable occasion.
Celebrating Sporting Excellence at Roe Green
We all came together to celebrate the hard work, determination and achievements of our students in sport. It was wonderful to see so many children recognised for their commitment, effort and positive attitude throughout the year.
A large number of accolades were presented today, highlighting the many talented athletes in our school. These awards were not only for outstanding performances but also for qualities such as perseverance, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. Every child who received recognition should feel incredibly proud of their achievements and the example they set for others.
Sport teaches us valuable life skills. It encourages us to work together, overcome challenges and strive to be the very best version of ourselves. The students recognised today have demonstrated these qualities consistently and have represented our school with pride.
A special congratulations goes to our Sports Girl of the Year, Hooda from 6G and our Sports Boy of the Year, Jermaine from 6R. Both students have enjoyed tremendous success this year and have shown exceptional dedication, commitment, and talent across a range of sporting activities. Their achievements are a testament to the countless hours of practice, determination, and hard work they have invested throughout the year. They have been outstanding role models for their peers and truly deserve this prestigious recognition.
To all our award winners, congratulations on your accomplishments as Roe Green celebrates another fantastic year of sporting achievement.
Growing Together: Our Pollinator Project
This term, our school has been buzzing with activity thanks to our Pollinator Project!
With support from our Eco Warriors and project partners, children have planted flowers, strawberries and tomatoes, learned about biodiversity and helped to create a greener and more welcoming space for bees, butterflies and other wildlife.
The project has been about much more than planting. It has brought children together, developed teamwork and shown how small actions can make a big difference to our environment. Pupils had great fun getting their hands dirty and watching the garden come to life.
What a wonderful way to end the school year on a positive note!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make this project possible. Together, we have sown seeds that will grow both in our gardens and in our children’s minds.
Another Successful Term of Sustainability Learning
This term has been another fantastic one for sustainability across the school. Our focus on transport and climate change encourages children to think about the choices they make and how these can help protect our planet. The whole school should be proud of its commitment to walking to school and taking part in our Park and Stride initiative. These positive actions show how small changes can make a big difference.
We were also delighted by the success of another family sustainability project. The creativity and effort shown by the children and their families demonstrated that our whole community is working together to create a cleaner, greener and happier world. The wonderful displays around the school celebrate the children's learning and achievements and serve as a daily reminder of how we can all help to look after our planet.

Our total whole-school attendance for this term is 94.8% whilst attendance for the whole year is slightly higher at 94.7%. The higher our attendance the greater our learning and also, as you can see from this term's Round Up, the more fun!
