McKinney Vento Services

Senior Social Workers assist homeless youth and their families in removing obstacles and barriers that hinder the achievement of their academic and personal goals. Through the McKinney Vento Education Act, Social Workers provide case management, basic needs resources, community-based referrals and advocacy for students and their families as well as collaboration and training to school personnel. These services are designed to meet the holistic needs of students and families.

Greetings and blessings!  I am Doris A. Baker a Clinical Senior Social Worker for School Mental Health and Student and Family Support Services.  It has been my privilege to serve the Pomona Unified School District, staff, students, parents, and Pomona Community for fifteen years in various roles within the District.  Regardless of my role or functions, my life’s motto has been to serve as a catalyst for hope and change-- a catalyst that will consistently inform, support, empower, challenge and advocate for students, parents, families, individuals and community systems.

Hello students and parents,

My name is Maura Solano, and I am a Senior Social Worker for our Department of Student & Family Support Services. I strive to support our families and as a social worker I apply empowerment intervention methods to help guide parents and families toward building autonomy and control of their lives. In my downtime, I like spending time with my family and dogs, and for self-care I practice mindfulness and swim laps.

My name is Carolina Soto, and I am Senior Social Worker working with our McKinney Vento students and their families. I am new to the school district but have a long history of working in Pomona. I enjoy working with student’s because they have such a unique way of looking at the world. Their youth and life outlook is contagious, I love learning from them and planting little seeds. I like working with parents and caregivers because sometimes what is most needed is an understanding ear and helpful heart. On my off time, I love spending time with my family, reading, going to the beach, and dancing.
