ASL 100 will learn the grammatical and functional structures introduced in ASL with special emphasis on the semantic differences between the basic declarative sentence structures. Additional attention will be given to the development of student's use of space, non-manual signals, fingerspelling, and numbers. As an introductory course, ASL 100 is intended to give an overview of both the language and the culture of the Deaf community. The goal of the class is for students to learn to communicate nonverbally, to increase their understanding of the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture, and to gain awareness of the grammar and usage of ASL.
