moving from Zimbra to outlook
Over Winter Break 2018-19, Northshore School District will be moving to Microsoft Outlook for email and calendaring services, replacing everything staff currently do within Zimbra.
Zimbra is becoming more difficult and more expensive to maintain and lacks desired features. Outlook is a more current and robust tool that will better meet the needs of district staff. Many staff use Outlook for personal email, so the interface is likely to be familiar.
What it means for you
Staff email addresses will remain the same (firstname.lastname@example.org). Staff will retain access to online collaboration tools in NSD Google drive via their @apps.nsd.org account. Student email and primary applications (Drive, Docs, Mail, Calendar etc) will remain in Google. This means that if you currently use Hapara in the classroom, it will continue to be available to you.
Using Outlook services for its excellent email and calendaring services while continuing to use Google’s robust collaboration tools (in the classroom and elsewhere) is a model that is implemented in districts around the state and country.
