Leadership is primarily an experiential course that explores the concept and value of servant leadership. Students will learn the importance of communication, character development, personal growth, active listening, goal setting, and building strong relationships and teams through positive influence. Students will be challenged to examine their relationships with others while assessing their personal character strengths and weaknesses. They will plan and implement ways to improve their personal character while improving their relationships with others. A variety of initiatives will be used to facilitate the learning of skills and, along with various media, reinforce those skills throughout the year.

This course is open to all students and is highly recommended for students interested in pursuing class council or other leadership positions.It is designed for student leaders who are committed, creative, assertive, organized, and responsible. There is an emphasis on the importance of communication, character, personal growth, building relationships, and recognizing/serving others first. In this class students will learn how to intentionally build leadership and character through learning/practicing the “Eight Essentials” of Servant Leadership: Patience, Kindness, Humility, Respect, Selflessness, Forgiveness, Honesty, and Commitment (Hunter 124). This course or (high school) Leadership Class is required to enroll in the Advanced ASB Officer.

This course is mandatory for all ASB Executive and 10th-12th grade Class Council Officers. It is designed for student leaders who are committed, creative, assertive, organized and responsible. Students will be expected to plan, facilitate and implement school-wide activities such as, but not limited to, assemblies, dances, blood drives, canned food drives, fundraisers, and school and community improvement projects that exhibit the qualities of servant leadership. Through these activities students will develop and build leadership and character through practicing the “Eight Essentials” of Servant Leadership: Patience, Kindness, Humility, Respect, Selflessness, Forgiveness, Honesty and Commitment (Hunter 124).

Link Crew is a 9th grade transition program that focuses on enlightening the experience of a new high school student – socially, academically, emotionally, and mentally. Link Crew empowers students to support, encourage, and care for other students. In the Link Crew class, we will focus on topics such as team and climate building, organization, leadership, communication, facilitation and teaching, and personal development. Students will learn important mentoring skills and life skills that will help them create a positive climate and culture on our campus. Additionally, leaders in this class will help implement yearlong Link activities to help build strong connections with 9th graders and support a positive climate and culture.
